Is Butch a pipe dream or a realistic possibility?

Pipe dream.

He he has a slightly better chance of getting hired than Lane Kiffin does and Lane's chances are at 0%

I can't believe people are homering for Schiano over Butch, who's the architect of college football's greatest team ever assembled. Madness.

Schiano is a coordinator, not a CEO.

Schiano...pin those ears back and go. We'll have the best defense in the nation.
I'm fine with Butch, but Schiano would be just as good or better IMO. Butch is a shortsighted hire. Schiano could be here for a long time. He stayed at Rutgers for over a decade! He would be a home run IMO and would fix our defense immediately. Would also toughen us up and said he is open to new and innovative schemes and techniques in an interview! We would be a perrenial top 15 team, which would be great considering our lack of funding, admin support, and a crappy stadium situation!

Schiano turned us down before. Butch is not shortsighted. he is staying put and has a great coaching tree so he will leave a successor.
some of you say "he hasn't had a call in 5 years" he got cleared of NCAA and if u think no one as called him, u are nuts. Fact is Butch has
reached out to BOT and told them he wont entertain a job until this season is over. he knows golden can't get it done and he just wants a shot
to be here. he loves it here and regrets he left.

schiano turned around rutgers but to me he is just the ceo of a competitive team who will always win 9 games but only compete for a BCS once every 5 years or so.

We'll have to wait for D$ to weigh in, but as I understand it, Butch returning is supported by some of the BOT members.

they are opening to the idea of it. First, he saved this program. second, he is CHEAP hire. can't beat it.

Schiano also put some good rutgers players into the NFL

Yeah, we need another coaching experiment.

Maybe another coordinator. Maybe a guy who had one short bit of success, with maybe one quarterback.

Maybe we need a young guy who will be out of here so fast after some success, it will make our heads spin.

Maybe we need a trendy coach who's making a big splash against lesser opponents - but hasn't really put together a team himself.

Maybe we need another smooth talker from a lesser conference - oops - we already got that.

By all means, let's not get a proven team builder,
a proven top talent evaluator,
a proven recruiter,
a proven Head Coach,
a proven UM HC,
a proven 305 talent evalutator,
a proven NFL talent developer,
a proven coordinator evaluator,
a proven position coach evaluator,
and for God's sake, let's not get a guy who under great sanctions, put together the greatest football talent ever to play the game of college football.
Who UM can afford.

Oh yeah - **** Butch.

Simple minded retards.

.500 coach who went 13-12 in his last 2 years.

Schiano was a .500 coach at Rutgers with one good season.
Butch was just above a .500 coach at UNC with no good seasons. What either could do here is way more than what they could do at UNC or Rutgers.

Schiano at Rutgers (minus the first two years that skewed the data): 65-47= .58
Butch at UNC (minus first year that skewed the data): 24-15= .62

So the data says Butch did marginally better at UNC than Schiano at Rutgers, however it really took Schiano 4 years to make Rutgers a solid program. After the first four years where they improved each year,

Schiano went: 56-33= .63

This included an 11-2 year and a 5-1 bowl record. Not sure why you think Schiano is a bad coach. The data says otherwise...Before Schiano got to Rutgers, they went 1-10 in '99 and 3-8 in '00. He took a sorry *** program and made them relevant nationally and in their conference. I know everyone loves Butch (and I wouldn't mind him either), but Schiano is a good choice too!

It depends on if the BOT decides it needs a better football program to stay ins ACC. If there is the hint of pressure for Conference or the whisper of "Temple" south, they will forget everything and bring Butch back. That big check is what they care about. Big 10 and Pac 10 are making comebacks. ACC next tv deal might not be so fat if with noles slipping back and us still off the radar. We need ACC to turn the ***** a little. Imagine the contract with Miami back, fsu a contender and then get ND in for football too. UM v FSU and UM v ND have been the biggest TV ratings the last 50 years. SEC, PAC 10, and BiG whatever have never been more than regional with occasional national reach --- Miami and ND were and can be global. Help us ACC you are our only help.

Thank you.

would love to hear his $0.02

DMoney posted this about the chances of Butch coming back in another thread over the weekend.

DMoney do you think Butch is a realistic option and do you think he's someone the BoT will pursue when Golden gets the boot at the end of the year?

Would he be a good hire?

I know he stays in contact with DiMare, but I've heard from multiple good sources that's it's not going to happen.
