Irvin Jr.'s Progress

Irvin looked great in Fall practice when I got to watch. Haskins was a surprise in the blocking game, too. Huge kid.

I think they're both advanced from expectations, but I expect Irvin to make an impact if Njoku finally decides to leave early.

If Haskins is tough enough I can see him growing into a giant athletic DT. The guys looks like he's already 6'7 and 265 as a freshmans.

And the crank on him. Jesucristo.

This is one of the things I'm most concerned about related to next year's offense. With Njoku likely gone as you state, who is going to take on his role? It appears that coach Richt prefers a run first offense which, on its face, seems to be more conservative. Losing a guy like Njoku makes me concerned about the potential that our offense could be even more conservative than it was last year. I recognize that the defense will be a clear strength of the team next year but my preference as a fan is to have a more wide open offense. Seemed like Richt finally figured out how to use Njoku at the end of the season but will that go away if/when he declares for the NFL? There is no tight end that stands out to me from Richt's era at UGA....maybe I'm just not remembering properly. Hoping Mike Jr. or one of the other guys on the roster steps up to take Njoku's spot.

How about Randy McMichael, Oraon Charles, Leonard Pope, Stan Rome , Jeb Blazevich, Isaac Nauta

They seem very different to me. Great hands. Better athleticism than I thought because he has good feet and balance, but nothing like Njoku's burst.

I think he has a much better base and better chance of making an impact inline than Njoku did. I have no comparison for Irvin Jr. since I didn't get to watch him *that* much. My hope is you'll see more two TE sets inline next year. This year, we used Njoku in the slot a whole bunch. I liked that, even though we didn't take advantage of it when we needed it most (FSU, only slightly started against UNC). I don't see any of our current TEs with the same split out ability. Herndon will continue to be moved around. I also hope you see Berrios moved back inside. Despite the long catch against Duke, I'm at a complete loss for what he's doing split out wide.

Over the summer there was some buzz of his potential . . . any word on where he stands? with all the njoku talk, figured we'd look to the future a bit . . .

That's a terrible post. Next time try something like...

Irving Jr
Haven't seen much of this guy, is he a bust or just a JAG?

nah, i'm good with what i said . . .

in the end it's semantics, i was trying to get a feel for how he performed in practice . . . this board prides itself on insight so i was wondering if there was any on irvin jr. has he be killing it in practice, etc.

thank you to those who wanna talk football vs those english professors

Wasn't trying to be an english professor, just mocking the ridiculous way people usually post for information about players. I don't think anyone knows anything beyond what could be seen on the field. I don't recall hearing his name mentioned by coaches during the season, but I don't think that means much yet. If he's going to be a contribute, I'd expect to hear more over the summer.

I believe he was poking fun at the porsters on the site who still write "Michael Irving" and "Irving Jr." --- and posters who call true freshmen busts and JAGS despite them playing about 20 snaps on offense in a year.
