The UM football program put the university on the map, leading to a sharp increase in applications laying the groundwork for its enhanced academic status. Yet, the administration ignores the football program's impact and allows it to be run by utter incompetents.
We have had two of the worst head coaches over the last decade, back to back. And, worse still is the joke of an athletic director who gave an inept and unproven coach an extension. To put this in perspective, is there any program from the big 5 conferences that would hire Blake James as its athletic director, or Shannon or Golden as its head coach? The only school that would make any of these grave errors, in fact all three, is the University of Miami. What a disaster!
And even now when everyone and their dog knows Golden is not an effective head coach and has lost the locker room, the administration does nothing. They know this recruiting class will be a disaster, next season will be miserable, and Golden will be fired in December 2015. Why wait a year to do the inevitable? Because of the buyout this incompetent athletic dept negotiated? That is phenomenally short-sighted when you consider how much harder it will be for the next coach to fix this mess.
So again, the ultimate irony is the administration and BOT ignoring the very football program that created the environment to propel yhe university to where it is now, a respected ACC institution rather than Suntan U
