Yes.. they haven't met the threshold of 5 "disadvantage games" since 2018.Haha is Nick and Kirby not on there because they're never at a disadvantage? Also, I like this. Hopefully Mario moves further to the right after this season because we're more talented than anyone not named Clemson on our schedule.
I think because the team he inherited at Oregon wasn’t loaded with tons of highly ranked recruits. The last few years of Helfrich and Taggart had put a big dent in Oregon’s overall talent and while they still had some good players, they weren’t at a huge advantage over a lot of the teams they faced. To add some context, the general narrative I hear with Mario is that he needs to build a distinct talent advantage through recruiting to win games.
This chart says otherwise.
Of course a talent advantage helps any coach. But Mario has at least slightly overachieved, even when at a talent disadvantage.

100% agreedI don’t disagree.
But he’d be much better off if he actually allowed his offensive viewpoint modernize. It’s what saved Nick Satan’s career the last 8yrs or so.
You can do both power run schemes and air raid passing concepts. They can and do coexist on both the college and NFL level
This is INSANE!Yes.. they haven't met the threshold of 5 "disadvantage games" since 2018.
Still up in the positive numbers for both. Look at where Mike Leach and Lan Kiffin are. It shows they need a talent advantage.I’ll need to look closer, but at first glance I see him being merely a centimeter or two better than Herm Edwards who just got fired and Mike Norvell…
Mario performs way above the norm when he has a talent disadvantage, but performs just okay when his team is at an advantage.I’ll need to look closer, but at first glance I see him being merely a centimeter or two better than Herm Edwards who just got fired and Mike Norvell…
My guess is Oregon was rarely at the disadvantage but had games against USC (247 rankings not actual talent) and Ohio State game last year that gave him the bump. Think he won a Rose Bowl with Herbert too. Can't imagine many pac 12 teams were more talented than Oregon.Mario performs way above the norm when he has a talent disadvantage, but performs just okay when his team is at an advantage.
Usually its the other way around or both, so I am trying to figure out why that is.
Probably because of his overall philosophy and tendency to coach conservatively, and I think we saw that against A&M. A strong OL and DL will keep you in the game against more talented teams but if you're not going to light up the scoreboard offensively, and instead opt for slow 8 minute drives that may net you just 3 points, it can let teams hang around even when you have a talent advantage.Mario performs way above the norm when he has a talent disadvantage, but performs just okay when his team is at an advantage.

Looks like this chart is only since 2018His time at FIU when he was at a talent disadvantage every game probably boosts his numbers here right?
Thanks for pointing that out. That looks great for him thenLooks like this chart is only since 2018
