Was listening to Cooper petagna and Ivins. They were looking back and wondering what they missed about Mahomes, the Kelce's, Pachecho and some others in HS.

One interesting observation is that the Chiefs have 6 former QBs in their 2 deep of skill players including all three TEs and 3 former QBs in the secondary.

They were talking about how generally QBs are smarter and can see the whole game allowing them to play in complex systems.

Another observation is that they were all multi sport athletes.

Kids need to be playing multiple sports as kids.. one, they are kids. Second, a college coach will always take the multi kid over a single specialty, because that single kid is much closer to their peak, with a higher potential to have poor mechanics or tendencies already too engrained.

Let the kids play all the sports, dammit!

But in today’s HS there are some Tom O’Brien type football coaches who discourage their players from participating in other sports. I’ve heard alot of stories with basketball, track and baseball coaches getting into with football coaches about kids playing other sports. Some of these dudes walk around their schools like they are Nick Saban and barely win 7-8 games a year and want to dictate how much a kid will be available for another sport.

Yeah, we did "way back when," but the parents all too often get sucked into specialization way too early on now

And if a kid is special special.. I get specializing earlier than most. But a lot of these kids need to get all that athletic exposure, different movements, different coordinations.. and not get into poor techniques and habits that a potential college coach can't unscrub.

I feel like I'm getting ******* old making this take, but here I am dammit! 🤣 The Iowa schools have made a killing off these corn-fed farm boys for years because they are just athletes.. although Midwest athletes..
