Interesting hire for auburn

My family all live in Boise and I'm actually there now. Harsin is a really solid coach, however, I know from some of the players that he's pretty uneven. He's very Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

The funny thing is that BSU fans won't care that much that he's leaving. A bit of that is from when Petersen was here, the expectations are still pretty high. I think schematically he'll do fine in the SEC, I'm more curious how he handles everything else.

Real Christian Gus Malzahn ran a clean ship at Auburn. Think the obvious hire for Auburn was 'Convenience Christian' Hugh Freeze...Auburn really only wins at a high level when they cheat, and cheat big. Freeze would've given them a glorious 4-5 years.

As for Hardin...playing Bama, LSU, Georgia, Texas A&M every year...good luck.

Peterson would be a horrible fit for Miami...not just personality wise, but His offense is too complex for College kids.
You know Petersen personally to know that his personality wouldn't work here? You base this one what exactly? Too complex offense to succeed with college kids? How exactly has he won so many games at the college level then?

For real. Petersen is a beast. I’d kill for him to be here. Provided he doesn’t try to go full on bro style

Do you think Boise St stays in house & makes Eric Kiesau the HC or do you see them going after someone else?

That's a difficult job... He's going from one of the Top 5 Easiest Jobs in College Football to one of the most difficult

Already a dead man walking.
You know I live up here and the locals dont think highly of him... and he played for BSU. Personally I they were spoiled by Petersen, one of CF's top 5 coaches, but you can see BSU isnt the powerhouse they once were. Petersen was developing guys into draft picks on the regular, Harsin not so much.

I honestly don't know who they'll actually get. I'm surprised Auburn hired him honestly, I didn't even know he was an option. My brother has some booster friends and I know they want Andy Avalos who coached here previously.

Bryan Harsin is a very well respected offensive mind in the business, in terms of X’s & O’s he’s a very good coach.

The question becomes culture fit & recruiting, he’s a true blue Boise Idaho guy, former Chris Petersen disciple that played & coached at BSU, if you could think of a guy who would never leave his alma mater it would be him, it’s kinda shocking that he would take the AU job, obviously he’s gonna get a big bump up in pay but he comes off as the type that would’ve been happy coaching at Boise St for the rest of his career.

Every single season at Boise except one (not including this year obviously because they only played 7) he had 10+ wins & did a terrific job developing QB’s that fit his scheme & found players that were seamless culture fits.

He does have some experience at a big time program when he was at Texas under Mack Brown as QB/OC, he was actually UT’s OC when Diaz was DC there lol, but he’s been pretty much a BSU lifer for most of his career, Auburn is a big move up for him.

I know one thing, AU under him is gonna be a well prepared offense, they will be a team that if you don’t show up to play will crack your head open with their offense in those noon kickoffs with teams coming out sluggish.

But it will all come down to recruiting, if he can get the hang of the brutal SEC recruiting Wars he’ll be alright, if not, he could end up like Novell at FSU & get blindsided by how aggressive recruiting is in the SEC.

All your X's and O's comments are fine, but Auburn is a job where culture is a HUUUUUUGE issue.

I don't think this will end well for either Harsin or Auburn. Lots of places would have hired Harsin if he wanted to leave Boise so bad, not sure why he took Auburn. Makes no sense at all from his standpoint.

So the theory behind this hire is that the Auburn bag machine can withstand regime change?

These are the hires that no one thinks are great and then they prove everyone wrong lol. Not expecting much but wouldn't be surprised the way these things work sometimes.

You tend to like the up and comers. You were all in on Dino Babers for Miami. This guy I'm not sure even fits that mold. You think he's gonna recruit with a Boise staff at Auburn? I tend to think it's a stretch. They need some established recruiters to even have a chance that will come in guns blazing dropping bags. I personally think it's a downgrade from the current staff. The issue is Auburn itself. It's never been a good job IMO. Hardly any panhandle kids wanna play there, let alone central and south FL kids. Now you are compared to Bama whose a juggernaut so it's even less desirable.
