Interesting Bama Scrimmage Note

Just not a good match up for us and our talent level is well behind theirs. They have a strong front 7. We have experience but our interior line isn’t up to this. Their front seven is going to terrorize us and king will not be able to create much with his legs. We also don’t have a 50/50 guy on the outside to make plays against their secondary. This will be one sided. I think we will be lucky to score 17 tbh
They do have a good front seven , but they got lit up multiple times last year. This isn’t 1993 where defenses shut everyone out or down. I believe they gave up 19-20 Ppg last year , that’s not exactly the steel curtain. There’ll be opportunities for plays. The problem is lately we come up short in those spots.

If we can’t block them or the ol looks anywhere like last years it won’t matter. It’ll be Clemson all over again. The ol will tell everything , probably from the first drive.

I agree. I don’t think he called a very good game but Clemson gambled that they could lock us up on the outside and they attacked the LOS like nothing I’ve ever seen. It paid off. I thought he should have done more to get the backs and TE’s out on the edges of the defense but we were probably screwed regardless. Fair to say he failed though as well. Should have a better plan in this one and we are 100% better at the WR position this year. I don’t think you can defend us that way again.

I rewatched that game and noticed Campbell played a lot at LT. Not sure where Zion was. We had our chances but we were so undisciplined and made too many mistakes.

Hopefully Zion plays va bama but I’m interested to see how Rivers, Gaynor and Donaldson look. If they play well we will have a chance.

The 2 new guards and better receivers give me strong hope the offense will be much better. We were weak there last year. Clemson, with all the advance scouting they do, picked up on that and attacked us at both spots. Don’t think that happens this year.

DJ will certainly get his fair share of snaps and could start. But he is much more the run stuffer. He's a hard human being to move off the line. Tim Smith and Phil Mathis are a little more run and pass. Tim will put folks more in mind with Quinnen Wiliams and Christian Barmore with his push up the middle.

A healthy LaBryan Ray makes this unit dangerous in pressuring quarterbacks on the line and stopping the run. As a redshirt senior, he just hasn't been 100 percent since his sophomore year in 2018. Coach Saban has often spoken on how Ray gives the defense a different look when he is ready to go.
Sounds like rays been nicked up in camp again. Injuries have slowed his progress alot. He was looking like the next star potentially a couple years ago. Those are the three I'm most worried about containing. Guys like young ebgoibe dale are solid but aren't playmakers.

I'm most worried about William Anderson especially with our Lt nelson possibly injured. He's the biggest playmaker and a potential top 10 pick. If we wanna be successful passing the ball we have to keep him contained

Agreed. I think our OL will be a strength of this team as the season goes on.

This coupled with some atrocious officiating impacted the game significantly. Everyone forgets the ''stomach target'' and D'eriq getting head shotted and late hit early without even a flinch to throw a flag. Clemson was the better team that night but tobacco road definitely facilitated that embarrassment to some degree. It's just a lot more fun for some of our fans to be ''woke'' about our mediocrity and one sidedly **** all over our coaches and players.
I honestly think this might be the one thing that people are underselling about this game. I’m completely sold that the holding and targeting penalties will be completely one sided. Hopefully I’m wrong and the refs don’t try to take the wind out of our sails. But I fully expect the rednecks to line the refs wallets at all costs.

If the referees call an honest game, I believe that our ability to stay in the match and have a chance to pull it off is predominately on the wide receivers on the offense and the LBs on the defense.

You know Alabama is going to challenge us upfront and force us to pass. So if our wide receivers can get open and catch the ball, we can spread it out more and soften that run defense. Expect a lot of quick passes by King coming out of the gate with up-tempo to keep them on their heels. Catch the **** ball.

Defensively, you know Bama is going to try to pound us into oblivion. If our linebackers can manage the line of scrimmage effectively, that forces them to throw, and I believe our defensive back unit is good enough to create some havoc.

Will Anderson is getting rave reviews from coach Saban, which immediately puts him in rarified air. Last I heard of a Bama player this disruptive his name was Derrick Thomas. If that's true, just wow.

Nelson is going to have to play his best game he's played to keep Anderson contained. Quick passes and chipping him with a back or tightend on occasion to help him out would be my plan. But most of the time it'll be man on man. He's gonna make some plays they just can't be momentum changing plays like a ff or a sack that stalls a drive that could put pts on the board. We gotta give king time. If we do I think there's plays to be made against the secondary. I'd go after armor-davis and see if he's a weak spot. And the two safeties battle and helmas are good I think they can be beat some. I'm less confident in going after branch or Moore when you guys are in nickel and dime sets. I also think Jones pretty good but don't think he's a number 1 corner. I'd test him and see if the refs are going to call Pi's. He seems to get alot of them. If they do he might be less physical and we can get him off his game.

Well that's our challenge, blocking their fron 7 and blocking on he interior. If we have a chance in this game its playing them early with a new OC and new QB. But really and truly this game is on our offense, u cant really shut down teams these days. Its almost impossible even with young QBs. King has to play like the best QB in this game. He has to be a leader.

I think Manny Diaz is a lot more likely to go after Davis than Jobe. This game feels like Alabama is going to be in a lot of press coverage and our DNA on defense these days is Nickle about 90% of the time. The red zone will tell the tale. I wouldn't be surprised to see Miami move the ball inside the 20s. But the money zone is hard when teams run out of space and it really takes a team dedicated to a physical run game to consistently score TDs instead of kicking field goals. In this day of spreads, everyone seems to move the ball, but the last 20 yards is often the difference.

I really want to see Lashlee utilize the rb's in the pass game as much as possible

On the defensive line, Christian Barmore was it. This DL will rotate 2 deep the entire game. We lost Patrick Surtain at the corner and Dylan Moses at ILB. Tim Smith, a big DT, is getting practice reviews a lot like Anderson and came on strong last season at the end of his freshman campaign. The one transplant on D that is having a big impact up the middle is ILB Henry To'oTo'o. He was very familiar with Bama's setup playing under Jeremy Pruitt and I understand is calling signals for the front 7.
Thanks for coming in and posting info, Bammer.
