Insane Defensive Stat

Canes D has now held UF and Stanford below 150 total yards of offense.

Over the last 25 seasons (2000-2024) Miami held just FOUR P4 opponents under 150 total

2001 - Rutgers
2005 - Duke
2006 - VT
2009 - UVA

It’s the first time Miami has held two P4 opponents below 150 yards in at least 30 years.
And to think about 1/2 of that 140 came on the first drive of the game…makes that stat that much more impressive

Thanks for sharing. To add, not a stat line, but comment regarding our defense..It was pretty **** nice to see our defense make an adjustment over the course of one week after a team showed a potential playbook or vulnerabilities, ie the quick throws, crosses and some miscommunication. They looked great vs Stanford.

That’s great stat & love our DC, but let’s not get carried away. Florida couldn’t get out of its own way, QB had had limited practice snaps & HC subsequently got fired. Stanford is just awful.
we held florida to their lowest yard output since 1999 and their lowest yards per play output since 1986

so they literally did worse vs us than anyone else but you want to discredit it because of a general perception?

have we not played other bad offensive teams in the last 25 years? we haven't held them to their lowest historic yard output

Holding ANY fbs team, let alone a p4 team under 200 yards is impressive in this day and age. Especially when you consider what we saw on D just last year.

Fair points, but we've also played numerous awful teams (many of which have less talent than that UF team) over the last 25 years. So this does not diminish the accomplishment.

This is the pussified **** I’m talking about!!!

Get out their own way???? Maybe we had something to do with that genius!

Christ!

Heatherman is going to have suitors with all these changes so he will be getting a sizable bump im sure to hang around.
He deserves more HC consideration than say Dawson who has gotten all the talk. But he seems like a perfect fit as a DC so hope he sticks around here in this role.

Also kinda OT but here is Cig talking about hiring him and his intensity

I remember like it was yesterday. I was at a Christmas party with bacane. I gifted him several $100 bills. He complained they were too wrinkled.

It feels like we hold our opponents to their lowest total yards/points for the season so far
Which certainly feels like a change, I remember going into weeks telling myself "they have a **** offense, so at least we won't get torched." and then we'd make the opps offense look all world. So this is def a nice and significant change in performance.

This is also a byproduct of being the 7th best team at ball possession in the country. So Mario correlates the elite defense at least somewhat to slow possessive offense that keeps the other team's offense off the field.

Less opportunities for the other team means less yards. It's actually pretty sound in theory.

But situational awareness has to be a part of the equation as well and a good head coach has to be able to pivot strategies and pace when the game dictates that.

Another insane stat from the Stanford game was on the 1st drive Stanford had approximately 74 yards of offense and only 70 yards the rest of the game.

I just read that Stanford did not cross their own 35-yard line after the first drive until the mid-fourth quarter.
Also of the 70 yards after the frist two drives 20 came on one pass play with 7:50 left in the game.
That's serious domination.
