While I'm with you on this, and really, really, REALLY tired of hearing all about hiring former players that are unqualified, uninterested or too expensive, there is some validity to the notion, to the extent the program really doesn't have comparable counterparts in the form of small schools with limited resources that are CFB royalty.

USC is much larger than Miami and Notre Dame won most of their titles when only white guys could play. Given this, ties to the program are helpful, especially in the form of candidates in roles like Reed. But the notion of constraining our coaching candidates to former players is seriously f@#k!ng absurd and frankly juvenile.
