Inexcusable amount of penalties, coaches are not to blame.

Those 2 late hit flags were BS, the ball-carriers were still in bounds when they got hit, and the ref didn't blow the whistle yet.
for clarity, you are aware that the ball being dead by rule is all that matters. the "refs" whistle doesn't end the play, ever. Playing through the whistle is coach speak and correct but awareness of the status of the ball is imperative for all players. love it, hate it but thats how it is. I come from a position of knowledge, I have been officiating football for 14yrs.

Most of these athletes have been playing football, or another sport, since elementary school. By now, they know the rules and should be disciplined players. The Corey Flagg comments says more about the players than coaches. Why are players needing to taught or coached in practice self discipline or self control? Self discipline is one of the basics of any sportlearned during youth football, basketball, soccer, tennis, swimming, etc. Sure self discipline should be addressed and emphasized during practice. Blame coaches for play calling, game planning, preparation, communication, knowledge of rules, etc. If players were too "hyped"or "shook", etc., (which could happen in this rivalry game) more experienced players should have stepped in and calmed players nerves. Undisciplined penalties, 90% of that responsibility is on players. Just my opinion.

The 1st quarter penalties were the 2nd most in a quarter of any team in the last 10 years.

I guess it depends on the officiating crew. I remember McCloud making a similar hit vs UNC some years ago, no flag.

Then who should be blamed for recruiting them?

Oh, I know the answer. Those **** assistant coaches.

You don't coach individual mistakes. U coach or allow habits, good or bad. U demand accountability. That's how this works. We are coached where we cannot sustaing good execution. We have no accountability. Fundamentals are not prioritized. Diaz is not a HC. Period.

this is where it is right here. nothing else needs to be said.

for sure. Not all coaches are made the same, not all players are made the same and certainly not all officials are made the same.
But that is why you do trend analysis on the officiating crews...A good HC has a database of all of his conference's officials, their tendencies and focus areas. Most of the crews stay together all season and over repeated seasons, with new members being integrated and made well aware of the referee's likes and dislikes. it's not real hard to have such data compilied. Jeff Flanagan and his crews have a long history to analyze and a competent HC would have been using this data and video to educate his team when the officiating crew assignments came out...Sorry, I said competent and the 'Canes have Manny...Never mind.

I get what you are saying but ACC officials throw a **** ton of flags, especially against idiotic teams like Miami. SEC throws tons of flags as well. The coaching point is to demand your kids to shut the **** and play. Don't move until the ball moves, don't hit players out of bounds. Don't play kids that are unplayable because of this but Miami is out of players. There are freshman everywhere on the field, there is no one else to play. Punishment needs to be felt at practice. it wont be. Manny has aloud all this for 3yrs, he has no recourse. His time is done. His missed his moment of setting the standard 6yrs ago. he is a beta

LOL. That game was like 180 yards in personal foul penalties.

This stat was for any team in college football, in the last 10 years. Not just the Canes.
