In the Portal Era you can’t Miss at QB

I blame Mario for choosing Carson Beck out the portal knowing he had to have surgery on his throwing arm and wouldn’t be able to throw until a few weeks before the season started. That was a big gamble that he struck out on.

Mario has to figure out how to survive November but that’s been an issue for this program before he got here. Miami is in the best position it’s been in since 2003 bc of Mario.. he deserves some heat when we lose bc that gets him working but he doesn’t deserve the level of hate he gets from this board.

Please make it a little harder, realize a Sunday after a loss, but my brain needs at least some exercise.

We’ll get there my friend.. another year or two Miami will be permanently solidified as a perennial 10 win+ team competing in the playoffs bc of Mario.

BUT 99% of the problem this team has this year is bc of Carson Beck that’s just reality. Every time he throws it feels like it could go either way a catch or an INT.

If Cam Ward was on this team we are winning the ACC and playing for a national championship. Bc it wouldn’t look the same with him at QB and this defense. The more passes Beck throws in a game the more likely we lose, that wasn’t the rule last year.

Buddy we are on our 3rd DC in four years and maybe our 3 oc in four years. No acc title game another mid season collapse which the boosters and school has given the football team as much resources as it has ever had. This team is undisciplined. Did you not see Jacoby George the years he was here to know Mario isn't really a disciplinary. This is on Mario. If Shannon Dawson doesn't call the games well it's on Mario because he hired him and he is the head coach. If we are weak at a position it is on Mario because he is a head coach. The cot**** buck starts and stops at Mario Cristobal. He has been a HC for over a decade and he still hasn't improved in viral aspect of coaching.

Well...let's examine how recruiting portal QB's has gone.

2024 we were a millimeter from having Puff(whatever his name was) as the starting QB. Ward changed is mind at the last second. Extremely lucky break.

2025 we were a millimeter from having Emory as the starting QB. We missed on all QBs. Bech decided at the last second to enter the portal.
Note: Even with the #1 QB pick and the #1 offense we struggled to get a portal QB and were basically bailed out by Beck entering the portal late.

Point being,....we were lucky both years to be bailed out by a late decision to enter the portal instead of the draft. Both years...pure luck.

I think we are going to have a hard time getting the portal QB we want.

We are four years in and no QB that Mario has recruit has seen the field and looked good. Emory 🗑️ judd Anderson 🗑️ Luke nickel TBD. If you are a QB that wants to get drafted high and has talent and you are in the portal and can choose between ole miss bama Georgia OSU Oregon Texas tech Texas and Miami given what you have seen this year which team is the last team you would want to play for 👀

I mean, yeah, duh. QB is the money position.. but what does that have to do with Miami coRching away 2-3 games a year that 95% of other programs would win?!
 
Dereon Coleman is seriously under rated. Nickel has all the tools. Miami is set up at QB. See what's in the portal next year but the QB room has some serious talent coming in. And Coleman is all Miami.
