In All Seriousness, A Tragic Waste

@Empirical Cane ...I know all to well tragedies like this. I lost my Daughter at 18yrs old in 07 in a vehicular accident, then my former Wife (her Mom) from Cancer in 2013. It completely destroyed me. My heart goes out to you & everyone involved.
So sorry for your losses! Life is so fragile, and every loss changes you, but what an incredibly strong person you must be. Thanks for sharing what must be painful…

My heartfelt condolences, bruh. So sorry your daughter had to experience this. Not to dismiss or belittle her experience, but it could be a life saver in disguise. Condolences to the young man’s loved ones as well.
I joked before about her being a female Dexter. Oofdah.

She's taken it in stride no problem. Told us how her group saw him, tried to check his ABCs, and called for help. Basically has attitude "he ded".

I wonder where she gets that from?

I blame her mom. 🤣🤣🤣

Aerospace engineering major w/ 4.0 gpa (allegedly). Known to drink way to much from day 1. Empiricalette said he seemed to be the kinda guy that wanted friends and drinking was his way to "prove" how cool he was.*

'FƏKING TRAGIC AND SENSELESS.

My God. What a horrible time of year for that kid's poor family too. His "brothers" and probably most of his friends will all eventually move on but the start of every holiday season that family is going to still have to deal with the lingering fallout of such a senseless death.

I don’t know you personally, but no way you’re not culpable in her upbringing 😉. Definitely, needlessly tragic and senseless. What could have been…

A mother's wail when first learning of their severely wounded/dead child is an unforgettable sound. Their family will be, in some way, wrecked forever.

Just to relate to your point, my cousin in Joberg, South Africa whose birthday was December 25, celebrated it as usual on Christmas Eve 2020 with friends, went to a game reserve (a BD gift from his wife) the next day and came down with symptoms of the Big C. They came home and he started feeling worse, went to see his doctor and was immediately admitted to the hospital. Next thing you know he’s breathing with the help of a respirator. He never woke up, and was pulled off the respirator on Valentine’s Day. Needless to say, Christmas Days are a bit somber for the family now.

Fellow porsters,

I'm certainly first in line with sarcasm and quick wit, but I write this with great sadness.

Last evening at Empiricalette's University, a young man tragically wasted his life.

Young freshman in first semester out drinking way too much with his frat brothers (don't get me started)*. Somehow wandered back to his dorm and his "brothers" didn't check on him. He went to dorm's gym, again allegedly, in middle of night and tried to bench press.

The bar slipped from his hands and crushed his trachea. He was found by passers by (gym is a glass bowl type) already dead. Empiricalette was one of them. The authorities reviewed the video and began piecing the story together.

We have all done stupid things in life. I myself should be dead x10 over and them some. Wasteful moments like this remind me that someone's mother and father, someone's siblings, someone's grandparents have had their lives irrepairably broken and crushed.

I saw this too many times on active duty and I used to tell my young ones like a skipped broken record, "at what point do you think this will have a good outcome for you?"

Hearts are broken with unimaginable pain because of an idiotic lapse in judgment by what appears several folks.

Hug your family and remind them to make good choices.

Best,

Empy

*what was briefed to entire dorm this afternoon
**where the 'fək were his "friends, his brothers"!!!

that's awful to hear, and hope that your daughter doesn't hang on to the emotional issues that can arise from witnessing something like that.

that said, the real question is why a college dorm has an unsupervised and unlocked gym with free weights in it in the middle of the night. this could've happened if he was completely sober.

The college dorms are now all "Luxury and LA Fitness".

Stunning to see the arms race for recruiting and retaining regular students.

It isn't just athletes.

At her university, they havw a 4-ish level DFAC with high end items of every variety...no sĺop and gruel.

They have a sushi bar. Really nice stuff.

lol didn’t read
Because you can't read AOso.

Sorry to read this tragic story.

It is good to hear your daughter is dealing with it as well as she is. Seeing someone dead and not in a casket sort of way can be very disturbing.

Sadly, this story actually happened to me about 8 years ago when I was bench pressing pretty heavy. Blew out my major and minor pectoral on the right side and it did also come down on my neck. Thankfully, I was able to dump the weight. But it destroyed me financially, I end up having to move out of San Diego and my physical body has never been the same since.

And yes, be mindful of your hammered buddies. Even if it was not this story, one that also can be sadly true is the sleeping on your back and vomiting and choking on that. It happens.
