On the replay of the 1st TD, Fowler & Herbstreit were talking about how Lashlee saw something & was having the backup QBs yell out the read to King...sounds like they were positing that he called in the seam route to Mallory.

Not sure if that's true or not (it's a pretty good guess/assumption though)

Do you guys think that will be a new wrinkle in the games this year? With the lack of crowd noise, I think the teams that have good O or D Coordinators might be able to call in the read directly from the Sideline more easily than during Regular times.

I think we already saw multiple examples of that last night. I mentioned offline how the late Jordan TD seems to be an example of that. It helps we're on the ball so much more crisply than in prior years. Off the board, I also mentioned how, even in a short time, it's impressive how well-trained some of the O-players' mindset appear to be.

A good example of that is when Mark Pope stretched out at the 1 yard line. He got up and looked around. Jakai Clark ran up to him and seemed to yell "get on the ball, go, go." If all our players played with that kind of urgency and focus, we'd consistently look like the team we all wish to see.

Great call out. I too was impressed how we can go with so much pace and then - gasp - get lined up correctly on ensuing plays. If this had been previous years, we'd be seeing a chinese fire drill and guys line up incorrectly or false starts, etc. IIRC, we barely had any issues getting lined up...and it is only game 2. Love seeing that. OL gets a lot of credit for this. My only wish is that we had been more successful on inside running plays (draws, etc) while were were moving with tempo. Small nit and hopefully will get better with time (inside runs).

Its a teaching point in all up tempo offenses. There was a run towards the sideline during the game where you could hear a coach yelling "give the ball to the ref". I know Chip Kelly's Oregon teams would even teach which ref to give it to based on where you were on the field.
