Impact of Josh Darrow hire - in my opinion

Maybe it's just me, but something seems off if you're going into your fifth year of coaching and you still are hiring people based on connections in your backyard. Seems we've heard that song before.

It isn't connections we are lacking, it's performance.

What have you been following????

Go look at the 2015 class and look at hometown, find all the "Fl's" you can and then realize why we suck.

With the talent we had on the team, there is no excuse for going 6-7. It doesn't matter how many "FL" kids you have on the team. It is NOT connections the team is lacking...as HurricaneU said, it is clearly performance. I would almost guarantee you that if we went 10-3 or better (which this team was capable of) we would have had a great 2015 class.

Clearly if you think the 2015 class is a result of "lack of connections" you haven't been paying attention.

I believe Al's highest ranked class was his 2012 class, his first complete cycle. Since then the rankings have been lower with the 2015 falling under the table. Clearly, the more connected Al gets, the worse his recruiting is. His problem is not a lack of connections or understanding of SoFl. His problem is SoFl has gotten to know HIM and it does not like him or his results. This hire does nothing to alter the course of the program, nothing will unless the new President actually wants a winning program.

Is Darrow the guy that used to be on WQAM? If so, seems like a very weird hire.

Yes, Darrow has been at WQAM for almost 20 years I believe. Recently he has done play-by-play for UM basketball and Sideline stuff for UM football, as well as run SFHS.com. So he brings a lot to the table as far as media savviness. But what AG probably really likes is the fact that Darrow has built great relationships within the H.S. player/coaching community over the last 5 years, something AG sorely lacks right now. Before SFHS.com, which Darrow built from the ground up, there was really nothing like it around. Don't underestimate how much these players and coaches appreciate it when media shows up to their school to do a story on a kid, or to cover one of their games.
