Illegal blindside block on 84

One of the most ridiculous calls of the year. After the first FSU TD, they kicked off. Johnson returned it to about the 25. Of course, there was a flag. While watching live, the announcer called illegal blindside block. Never in my life have I heard that call on a kickoff, especially in the area where it was thrown. Like it's not even possible to blind someone in that area. I shook my head during the game knowing it was BS, but did not see a replay. Now that I have seen the replay it such a joke. 84 just straight up blocked the guy, there was nothing blindside about it. Not borderline, not even close. Just a good block. When you watch phantom penalties like this, there is no way someone on that field doesn't have money on the game. Little calls here and there can make up the spread. Making a team go 90 yards instead of 75 yards can be a big deal when it comes to kicking a FG versus getting a TD. Guess what, we ran out of time and had to kick a FG. Similarly, the bs PI on Horton. A phantom call that literally could be called on every pass play, but at a very convenient time if someone was trying to effect the point spread. However, an absolutely egregious PI on FSU's last TD is ignored. Again, the spread was on the line. You cannot tell me some of these guys in stripes have not mastered the art of manipulating the game in ways that benefit them. I simply refuse to believe it when such obvious stuff is called and at the same time phantom calls are made that effect the outcome of games.

I haven't seen the replay yet, but I will take your word for it.

I am not one of those fans like Duke BB fans and Bama football fans that think never commit a foul/penalty and other teams just get away with everything. However, I do believe we have more questionable judgement calls called against us while the penalties against our opponents are very obvious, so the refs have no choice to call them.

I feel like we have more defensive PI calls against us than our opponents have called against them every game. Most of those calls are probably correct, but there seems like at least one per game where it was very questionable. Whereas, when the opponent is called for PI, they are clearly mugging our receiver. It's not even close. Our d-line gets held a lot, and it's never called unless they just tackle our guy. I also feel that our o-lineman get away with some holding calls, but nothing like our opponents o-lineman hold our defensive guys.

One call that has been totally lopsided in our opponent's favor is the offensive PI. We get 1-2 per game called against us, while our opponent runs the same interference and no call is made. That PI against Horton was total BS.

I do think the majority of our penalties are called correctly, but the 2-3 per game that are questionable can be game changers. I seldom see a penalty called against our opponent that I think was not the correct call. Not saying they don't happen, but I'll go head to head against any other fan and we can break down each penalty from each team. I'm 100% confident that more questionable penalties are called against us.

It sucks, but you have to play the refs too.

Have to scheme up the routes to avoid contact if the refs are going to call it.

My favorite of the night was the 3rd down before the QB sneak play. Malik Bryant gets held so bad as the QB runs right past him. The official in the middle of the field stops watching the play and looks across the field, likely at another ref expecting a flag.

Rewatching the game now. Just saw that play. Couldnt tell in person. I dont know why Hard Rock and other stadiums cant do a better job of showing replays on the big screen….but I digress. That was in no way even close to being a blindside block. Holy cow that was awful. Worst part is the ref was in a good position I thought to see it.

I thought the kickoff penalty was a bit shady when they didn’t show a single replay from any angle of the “penalty”. I still have no idea what happened.

The OPI on Horton was just a straight up bad call. It wasn’t one of those “well you could call that on every play” type of plays. It was a guy running a route and getting flagged. We have run a ton of pick plays this year. Some pretty blatant ones that never got called. That one on Horton was pure trash.

Worst OPI call I’ve ever seen was in the Miami Cal game. Not sure if it was the one Sam Brown mentioned above or on someone else, but the receiver did not even touch the other defender. Short touchdown pass call back. Pretty sure we scored anyway next play or so.

I’m sure some of these teams are sending in tape before games to the league office about OPI in an effort to slow us down. People also have a built in prejudice towards us. I bet they don’t even realize they are being unfair sometimes.

And that’s why it was a phantom call with a hidden agenda. When a good block become a foul something is up.

Not sure about the call on the free kick because I don't remember. The PI on Horton was utter bull**** for sure
Dawson plays with fire on those rolling picks with WR/TE.
