I wonder if Oregon's uptick has anything to do with Clay Helton falling apart at USC, Chris Petersen retiring, Mike Leach leaving, Mel Tucker leaving and the Pac-12 becoming no better than a G5 conference. He's out there winning games against a conference that is worse than the American. UCLA and USC have both lost games to G5 California schools this year. Washington lost to Montana.

That conference has 3 current interims right now. Cal should probably fire their guy. And Stanford would if they cared enough. Two coaches in his division are interim guys and if Cal and Stanford did things like that it should probably be 4 interims in the division.

Big problem when you have a recruiting base of OL that dont even know WHAT a kick step is.

And coaches idea of coaching ol is screaming "Buss em in the mouth" every other series

All the those people touting "he's a great recruiter" gonna be shocked when those Utah, Arizona, California and Washington OL don't want to come play for the great one in Miami.
 
At the end of the day, Mario is not the obvious choice. He is the obvious 1st call and an obvious interview, yes. But if you don’t at least put out feelers to your list, sharing your game plan and some broad strokes of what your recommitment to football looks like to gauge market interest, you are doing this search a disservice.

If for no other reason, you need a Plan A, B, and C in case Mario isn’t coming. This is not a search you want to be scrambling on.

Mario is a good coach. I’m on record that at this point in our program, we would be lucky to have him. I would support him 100% and be jacked up for his 1st game. But there will be years where you all will be pulling your pubes out going crazy and calling for changes. However we won’t be embarrassed anymore (FIU level ****) and we will have some really good seasons which have been few and far between the past 20 years

So why’d he run a crap offense w Herbert. He is who he is, he’s an ol guy. we have guys that fit an aerial attack better including our ol in the area we recruit. We ain’t getting the west coast kids out here
 
Are we seriously objecting to Mario because he might fall short when we get to the playoff? We are nowhere near the playoff... we are not even within a Jim Mora press conference's distance from the playoff. Give me a coach who can get us to the playoff. If we hit a plateau there, then we can look for the guy to get us to the next level.
