If there’s no Football

folks the flu infects 60 million plus last year, and no one wore crap: masks are not the end all, in fact there are studies that show that masks actually declines one's immune system: wasn't SAR's a covid virus, what the **** did we do backed them nothing life went on and we never had a vaccine developed. What is the difference now, we have this in our faces 24/7, once the November elections are over the virus will mysteriously disappear .
We had Fauci backed them, never ever even saw his kisser once on TV. What did the lock downs do, not a dam thing this virus was spreading even while folks were locked down. Americans are selfish, got news for you, like sheep we sat down in our homes while our business , economies, livelihoods, were being wrecked. Then we allowed the restaurants and bars to slightly opened with dumb CDC guidelines, and then these poor businesses are immediately put on curfews that start at 6 PM, cause we got rioters, and looters basically blowing off all the protocols. Now these poor slobs are starting to opened up again, and they get shut down again cause of some BS testing. Amazing only country in the world were the virus doesn't spread at rallies, riots, and looting, but does spread in dining, bar rooms, and beaches ; Go figure,

Our country is the richest in the world and the one of the worst, if not the worst at managing this crisis. So many countries have this **** under control and take it seriously. There are procedures that have worked and are working. Most of the world won't even let us travel to their countries right now because we are a mess.
Blame whoever your want. Fact of the matter is that we ****ed ourselves because we brought politics into medicine/science and now we won't get to watch college football. At least the Aussie Football season is going strong.

Sometimes cries fall on deaf ears.....

This country and more specifically this state is the laughingstock of the entire world right now. We should be having cfb and just overall beginning a return to normalcy by now if we had taken the necessary measures early on but instead we’ve predictably prolonged this for who knows how long.

People that keep comparing it to the flu don’t understand the difference in the mortality rate or the degree to how quickly it can spread.

Obviously. But very, very few draft prospects would play. No Trevor Lawrence, no Justin Fields, no Rousseau, no Brevin Jordan, etc, etc, etc.

Sure, it's better than nothing. But it'd be really, really ****** to play in the spring.

Hey maybe that's a good thing for us? If we somehow made the ACCCG and potentially face a Lawrence-less Clemson. I'll take that all day lol.

Sure GR15 would sit and probably Roche. In that scenario I don't think its a given that guys like King or Brevin would sit.

It would suck that Miami’s best hope for a conference contender in 15 years wouldn’t materialize. Would feel bad for the players but as for me? Who gives a ****. Now I’ll have more time to bake and quite possibly not lose my mind over losses to Duke or cot**** North Carolina.

There will probably be schools that give up football but, I imagine other sports being cut before football, basketball, baseball.

As for the NFL they will be fine with the billions in revenue they produce.
That's the thing - presume no season in 2020, and potentially none 2021. The revenue that the NFL is going to be down to is quite simply this:

1. Licensing deals
2. Merchandise

What they miss is:
1. Television Revenue
2. Stadium Revenue

The former would cover only a fraction of the player costs each year (salary cap is $198M). Unless the players agree to freeze payment on the salaries for the duration of the shutdown, the NFL would go bankrupt.

Roche isn't sitting out. If he thought he was ready for the league, he'd have declared for the 2020 draft. He knew he needed to prove himself against a step up in competition. MAYBE being so crunched up against the draft could play into a decision for him and kids like him, but from a pure football and draft standpoint, he clearly thinks he needs to play another year or he wouldn't be here in the first place.

The NFL is going to play and have a Draft. No issues there.

The issue with NCAAF is that each conference is run like its own fiefdom and coordination by schools, each subject to their own university rules, makes it infinitely more complicated than the NFL. Plus, many schools are state run organizations being pulled in multiple directions, many by university presidents more concerned about lawsuits than the loss of football revenues.

That said, I remain steadfast we will see a season, it just may not be complete or start on time.
I don't think it will if the predictions of a late July surge related to July 4th infections take place. Or at best, it gets pushed back to October / November, the latter is when the talked about "Second Wave" begins. I also would not be surprised to see the NBA's attempt at a season conclusion in their bubble to fail.

I think it's going to knock us back a few years. Watch all the defaults in the next 4-10 months. It's going to be huge, especially with no additional stimulus, states having to go back to full lockdown mode.
The entire planet is going to be in this phase. Full or severe lockdowns until a vaccine. I doubt any one country is going to have the advantage during this environment.

Even better for us then. I agree with your points and being so close to the draft I think could make him decide to sit. Who knows. Either way- although a spring season may stink for some I think it could actually be beneficial for us.

Also, love how people say if there’s no football season, that might be the end of football for Miami and a few other P5 schools.

In what universe does it make sense to discontinue, permanently, a source of revenue just because that revenue dried up for one year. Yes they may operate a deficit for a year or two afterwards, but they are guaranteed to start reaping that net revenue in the near future.
If it's one year, I don't think it's the end of football for almost any of the P5 schools for the reason you just described. The danger is if it goes on for two years.

As for non Power 5 schools, you'll probably see closures of programs.

It's the decentralized nature of our mode of government. 50 states, 50 plans of dealing with the virus.

Oceania would have had this locked down tight.

I wouldn’t read too much into that figure. The reason revenues magically happen to equal expenses is so Miami avoids taxes, nothing more. And I’m not sure all revenues derived from football are accounted for in that figure. Take apparel, for instance. I don’t think that factors into football program revenue, yet it certainly is driven by the football program.
The tv deal is also not included in those numbers

DING DING DING! We have a winner!

My fear is not football at all. Does our country survive is the much bigger question all of us should be looking at.
as a true union? that already ended sometime ago. now our society is just working through who keeps what and visitation rights.

In who's book or almighty power? Please slap yourself into reality. You think the thousands of people on the streets day and night actually care about your statement? Get out of the bubble...

Depends on what the NFL does.
ESPN was discussing the possibility of the NFL season "sliding",
which would mean the season and draft.
