If Miami Were Publically Traded Butch Would be Hired

Not if you have a business mind. I picked up the analogy instantly.

Now if someone has to mouth the words he reads . . . that creates difficulty.

Everyone picked up the analogy. But only a few of us realized that it has no connection to reality.

BS.

The prime responsibility of any corporation is to generate profit. Period.

Whether dividends are distributed or not in a particular accounting period is another matter.

Butch will ignite the program, generate more positive national market awareness than the University could ever purchase.

Simple concept - run it like a business. Kinda went right over your head, huh?

Except that the concept of hiring the right guy who will ignite the program was given. Most of us already assumed that. We didn't need to try to compare it to Apple and toss around textbook terms in order to understand that we need to hire the right guy.

For most of us, the concept was elementary. You and the OP act like you're on to something. "Hey......if we hired a guy that we thought would be successful.........WE MIGHT HAVE A BETTER PROGRAM!! START A THREAD AND TELL EVERYONE ELSE."

There would have been massive shareholder revolt when Foote criticized JJ and Donna would have been a defendant in massive litigation.

Very simple concept that is very rational and real world. Look at Twitter. Brought back Jack who is CEO of another business. Risky, but someone who is as familiar with what "it" is suppose to look like more than anyone. The point was more along the lines of accountability. There is no checks and balances, no shareholders, no board. Simple concept which you clearly cannot see the point. Fair enough. Also the cubicle comment, way off and not going to share my title, my company, or my business acumen. But it's pretty highland correlates closely to my comments. Just throwing that out there as I happen to also be a huge canes fan.

What an arrogant prick to take a simple idea posted by the OP and then blow on it to what? Demonstrate some nebulous level of higher understanding of corporate activities?

If as you say, the concept was elementary, then it wasn't necessary for a smartass comment.

I'm confident that if the OP desired for you to "school him," he'd have asked nicely, perfessor.

Maybe you guys could compare it to NASA. If we were building a space capsule, we would contract it out to Commander Butch Davis. He would oversee the project and ensure that the taxpayers are getting something back. In the long run, the scientific findings would benefit society as a whole.

In other words, if we hire the right guy, there will be more excitement and we will have a better football program. That's all you guys had to say.

If the Miami football program was an elite steak house in Chicago, they would hire Chef Butch Davis.........

Yeah, we need to hire the right guy.

the gators and/or noles would buy us and liquidate to prevent us from competing with them for resources faster than anything in this thread could happen.

The original point is that the BOT has not made rational decisions for about 12 years. In the public markets if rational decisions are not made by companies then private equity or new management will come in and make the correct rational decision (fix the failing company). We understand that the Canes football program can't be acquired by a PE firm. That is exactly the point because of the lack of rational thinkers a series of irrational decisions has led to the program in a really really bad place in 2015.

My only point was that in MY opinion Butch is the safest bet to turn this thing around with the least risk. Maybe Herman would be better but in my opinion he has more risk attached because he has less of a track record. The program just cannot afford another failure.

We know what Butch did at Miami and what his players did in the NFL. I know you are pro Butch as well.

It is a just some abstract thinking on the OP part. I and it seems many others admire that.

It is just another way of saying the BOT has not made very good decisions on a consistent basis over the past decade or so.

No need for any personal insults. We are all Canes fans and want the best for the program.
