I’ve heard the comp of Fletcher being similiar to Alonzo Highsmith,. Think D Money and Kim both said it? Would that make Marty Brown this years Bratton? He does have shiftiness and has great catching ability out of the backfield like Melvin and even leaped over the line of scrimmage into the end zone like Melvin Bratton used to do (doing his best Herschel walker). And if we are gonna go there and say the fletcher/Brown duo is this years version of Highsmith/Bratton, where does that leave Lyles? Warren Williams?

Fletcher is similar to Alonzo in terms of being a bruising back who will overwhelm a defense with power rather than speed. I'm not sure about the rest of what was said. In other words, I'm not agreeing nor disagreeing. I sort of don't understand why so many fans do this sort of thing where current players are "the next (so and so former player)". Maybe it's a form of reliving the past, which was pretty sweet. I am always reminded of what Nesta Jade Silvera said when he got to UM and was asked about being the next Warren Sapp. I'm paraphrasing, but essentially Nesta said that he doesn't care about being the next any of them (former DTs)....he's worried about creating his own legacy. I point this out not to prop up Nesta (he transferred out to ASU so F him), it's to point out that maybe we should just appreciate the players we have for who they are.

I like Mark Fletcher a lot. He is no Alonzo Highsmith. Highsmith was a phenomenal athlete who would have been just as good at LB as he was at RB.
Highsmith was the #3 overall pick in the draft. Not third round. #3 overall. As good as Fletcher is, he will not be drafted in the first round, and not just because the position is devalued. Zo was special. Not just good, or really good. He was special.

Let’s compare Fletcher to Mike James or DJ Dallas. Both very good players who played in the NFL.

Don't see DJ Dallas at at all. DJ hit the hole like a rocket. Lyle or Pringle you could say that about, but not Fletch.

I think a poor man's Alonzo Highsmith is good for Fletch. Marty Brown - how about Tyrone Moss with less mass and more wiggle.

Souped up Mike James is a great comp.

Brown -Steven McGuire

Fletcher-James Stewart with less speed. Stewart could fly for a big guy 6-2 235.

Yeah I just meant DJ Dallas in terms of production and athleticism, not in style of running. I could see Fletcher having a similar NFL career.
And both guys are really good players.

But Zo is in another category.

Ya know, I was recently watching the FSU/Miami 94 game and this comp for Fletcher is spot on. JS was more physically gifted than Fletch but both had similar running styles. Brown is more fluid to me and more comparable to Zo than Fletch is.

I love Fletcher. We are lucky that he's a Cane despite what some of the Mel HairSpray Kipers on this board claim. But Highsmith was an elite athlete. He was drawing comparisons to Lawrence Taylor and Hugh Green during his Columbus HS days, and it wasn't as far-fetched as it seems in a county where Winston Moss, Derrick Thomas and other future D1 LBs were standing out.
As for the Bratton and Brown comparison, it's Apples and Oranges. Bratton was also an elite athlete in his era. Ran track and could flat out book. Brown is not like this at all but he's a very good football player. We are also fortunate to have him play for the good guys.

In my opinion, Fletcher’s running style is totally different than Zo’s. Two totally different backs. Mark’s running style reminds me more of a poor man’s Derrick Henry.

Maybe Daryl Oliver with a higher ceiling?
