If Mario KNEW this was going to be a challenge

.... a failed archaic vision
You guys keep saying this like it’s fact or some ****. Ohio State, Bama, UGA, UK, UNC, Syracuse, and Wake Forest are all power spread teams just like we are. The difference is the playcaller. Just because it has the word spread in it doesn’t mean they don’t have an emphasis on running the ball with multiple backs to establish their passing games.

Some of you really shouldn’t comment on anything related to football.

Lashlee would be scoring points. Dan Enos' offense scored more. Dan. Enos. I know there are injuries, but the offensive concepts are not good. They opened up the offense with TVD, but it was still bad. I don't think they can trust Garcia without making huge changes to simplify things. They're going to have to give him one read and hot option, and not much else.

Because he knew it would be a challenge, not a truly Herculean trial like climbing Mount Everest while carrying a Paranos special on his back.

And TVD had the second best EVER statistical game for a UM QB before we took on even more injuries. So, you know, we are capable of being really good, and then really bad, depending on the week.

It's a perfect storm of:

(a) coaching change (generally),
(b) poor/late adjustments being made for our talent and/or the opponent,
(c) massive injuries to key players,
(d) poor execution by our players and potential over-estimation by the coaches of our players' talent/motivation,
(e) terrible formations not suited to a speed team (compared to a bulky team), and
(f) shockingly bad red-zone playcalling

We have gotta stop judging Lashlee by only viewing his last 6 games as a coach with us. His QB over at SMU right now is having a worse year than the one he had before Lashlee got there. Lashlee prior to the last 6 games last year was trash. Lashlee in 2020 put up 19 points VS Virginia. The guy was not some offensive mastermind.

UCLA trajectory under Chip Kelly? Can we live with it?
UCLA is not recruiting at anywhere near the level under Kelly that UM is and will under Mario.
But if you want to bet me that after 5 season at UM, Mario won’t have an overall better record than Kelly after 5 season at UCLA, I will take that bet. Just let me know how much.

dan enos had a QB who left the team and was barely functional and got more points

kelly prolly would have been fired if UCLA didnt have 100+ mill in debt the last 3 years

No, it's all good, sir. I wasn't intending to kick your a$$, I'm just frustrated (and the games haven't helped). I tried to edit my post a bit to be more clear, I'm not mad at you, I'm just mad at the concept that Mario didn't try hard enough to get more Portal help.

I fully agree that we didn't hit a home run with Gattis. I'm not sure who would have been hired instead.

That is all. And, look, I'm also a critic of the tight formations and other aspects of Gattis's playcalling.

I'm hurt, dog.

But Mario made it very clear that we needed a talent infusion, and we chased a bunch of good Portal kids. We just didn't get enough guys (or the right guys) at a couple of spots. But Colbie Young has been a revelation!
Also improved depth on the defensive line…

Despite all the noise around here, he knew that this year’s won-loss record would not impact recruiting.

Think he over estimated the talent level here and also blew the coordinator hires. In this era with the portal how can the university of miami not have found a half decent MLB these past 2 seasons.
It’s hard not to when you see the recruiting rankings the last few years! But yes, he blew his hires. And his offense he wants to run ain’t it. I think Caleb Johnson is pretty good when he is in. He gets a lot of tackles when he plays. They chose to play Flagg more early on though. We will see if they play him more going forward.

"Why didnt we hit the portal harder"

Our best RB? a transfer
Our best WR? a transfer
Our best D-lineman (besides LT)? transfers

Transfer portal is working great, but we need a base of a talented roster first and use the portal to plug gaps.

Yeah, I agree with you, brother. They did hit the portal hard. There is a portal transfer in every room sans QB and TE. We missed on numerous other portal players, too.

40% marketshare of our total offensive production is coming from transfers from the portal.
45% of our sack production is coming from transfers on defense.
26% of our team tackles come from transfers.

We do not have a functional team - as dysfunctional as we have been - without what transfers we did bring in. They are literally carrying our team in whatever way we've gotten to the end of games. We probably needed more, for sure. But we hit the portal pretty **** hard.

WTF… I got to wait 5 years to collect… and with global warming my house will be underwater and so might I.

Please stop with this bullcrap (and that's not a personal comment, it's a reflection of the argument itself).

Mario hit the transfer portal **** hard. I don't even understand the half-analysis that goes into that kind of statement. "Hitting the portal hard" doesn't guarantee that kids pick you, the kids have a decision to make too (and without nearly the length of time to make visits and a decision that high school kids have).

Outside of getting his two best transfers from the school he just left behind, Slingblade Billy didn't do a great job in the portal. Nor did Mike Norvell, though he got a couple of guys early when Miami and Florida were both in the "hiring a new staff" phase.

As for "hiring an OC that players across the country would SALIVATE to come play for", I fail to see the relevance in the short-term. Outside of Portal kids, the new OC hire would not have impacted our CURRENT roster very much at all. And if you are concerned about recruits "SALIVATING", I would point out that we have the #6 recruiting class right now, so I'm not sure how much "better" things would be IN CURRENT RECRUITING if we had not hired Gattis (and I am not even advocating for or supporting Gattis, just wondering who else should have been hired that meets these criteria).

Sure, there may be some long-term impacts, but I really don't think that our on-field talent would be much different for this year. In fact, the benefit of hiring a "big-name" OC (that might not be a perfect fit for UM) is that his reputation precedes him. Hiring some unknown, but up-and-coming, OC might be a better fit, but it doesn't guarantee recruits right off the bat.

And don't even get me started on how myself and others were SHOUTED DOWN when we mentioned that Dorsey had a standing offer from Mario for the OC position. Maybe recruits might "SALIVATE" over Dorsey now, but a couple of months ago our own fans were saying that Dorsey was unqualified.
Dang it boy! Grand slam of a post.

Maybe Mario is playing the long game. Building a roster from transfers is not a long term solution. See Michigan State. Give me two great recruiting classes instead of going the short term route of a class full of one and done players. Is the goal here to win quickly and fizzle out? Or build a long time champion? We know what we want. Give me two years of misery and a playoff run in year 3 versus a quick fix and winning some meaningless bowl game that no longer interests these players anyway. Give me the long game all day. Not saying Mario will pull it off, but it’s the correct course to follow.

Not this type of power spread.

All of those teams, except for Michigan, utilize the advantage that wider hashes provide you in the college game.

Mario, and by extension Gattis, like to use condensed formations to break players open toward the sidelines. I myself thought with Van Dykes arm the offense would work here. But all of the routes and offense is bunched in the hashes.

It’s just crap.

Because there were deficiencies as he had said.

Why did we not hit the transfer portal harder? Why not hire an OC that players across the country would SALIVATE to come play for? Hey maybe I am wrong, if so, nail my ***. But, I didn't see the kind of urgency you would think a coach would have who KNEW he was walking into the kind of mess culturally that everyone seems to say was apparent to anyone who wasnt blind.

Should i expect to see that kind of urgency after this year? Should a Tennessee like turnaround be expected next year with the right moves? Or….. is this more of a UCLA type build? And if so, can you guys live with that?
What he did after his hire was nothing short of spectacular
