If Manny survives this season….DC?

Terrifying thought, but if Manny is brought back for next season, does he hire a new DC or does he give his current DC a raise? Will Manny bring in a DC if he is back next season?
JFC - OP!! This really deserve a thread at this point of the season??

Have you not been paying attention to how Manny reacts? If he’s retained, it’s because they win 9 or more games and that means the defense would play well which means, him being the DC is the reason why the team is so good, hence, why fire the DC & assign someone else? He’s the genius!

Manny is a legend in his own mind and infallible - just ask him. IF - he manages to hold onto his job it'll be confirmation, in his head, that all the right parts are in place and no changes are needed.

Your guess is as good as mine. I genuinely believe his D will never return to 2017 levels and we'd be better (assuming Manny is the HC next season) off hiring someone else to come in and impliment their own scheme. Get us away from this gimmicky crap that is completely dependent upon dominating the LOS because we don't have the trench bullies to do that. Not sure if Manny would swallow his pride and turn the D over to someone else completely. If anything it would probably be another Blake Baker type hire to run the same scheme, and we saw how effective that was last year.

Which is ultimately why I'd prefer we clean house top to bottom.
agree 100% ACC has figured out his gimmicky D scheme and he has not adjusted at all. i would prefer a house cleaning top to bottom maybe as high as Presidential level.... most certainly at AD level

Do you think it matters? This dude hired Blake Baker. He will find another Blake Baker.

T-Dawg or whatever his name is would be named DC in this scenario to appease Luther Campbell.

I thought that he had a DC lined up (or so he thought) before he got left at the alter. He doesn’t want to run this defense and that is what he will tell the administration and BOT to try to save his job. His big speech about being accountable as the DC is because he had no other options at that point. I was under the impression he was trying to get Charlie Strong when Urban reached out with a much better opportunity.

He will let the administration know that he needed a DC so to focus on being the head coach. That buys him another year as the contract buyout amortizes further and the BOT are happy about not paying additional dollars (and the fan base groans about slipping further into irrelevance).

I realize that this is not a popular opinion of the future for us, but I believe that this is how it happens unless he gets let go in the midst of the season for underperformance (also barring a complete end of year disaster and no bowl appearance). And then the question is what DC in their right mind comes here to be Manny’s proxy for a year until he is run out at the end of his contract. The answer is someone that needs a one year hold over until they are recycled themselves, so not too promising.

BIG *IF* but if this is the case the chess piece and move is already in place with Bob Schoop

I heard the GOAT blake will hire manny as the DC , pay his HC contract out and pay his buy out contracts at schools yet to hire manny yet.

The fact that you think Baker was the problem is a problem. Next it will be Lashlee. Then T-Rob. etc

Maybe, just maybe, Miami is the problem.
I think there’s truth in this but I don’t know what it is - Manny plus the school? And it’s on both sides of the ball. Blake Baker and Banda seem to be better away from Miami. Lashlee was good then came here and is not the same. Enos was at Bama, came here and was awful and now is at Maryland and doing well. I’ve had this discussion off the board in the past 12 hours.

I agree with OP and many others - clean this place from the President down to the AD and then keep going simply to get a new cultural start, let alone a competent one.

Agreed. It's been said by multiple people who should know that Manny does not want to do this long-term. If he survives the season, I'd expect Shoop to be named DC.
He looks like he doesn't sleep.....gotta be rough

He’s made significant staff changes every off season. If there’s one thing he IS willing to do, it’s change his staff.

I get that he has made changes the last two years, but you can only place blame on your assistants for so long before it gets hard to get any real coach in here. If he does make a change it will be because he hired a new dc and that guy wants to bring in his guys. I just don’t see it this time around.

I hear u… unless someone is just looking to collect a buyout after one season, they probably go elsewhere.

I have a hard time believing he loses his job regardless of record. But he may actually win the Coastal this year even with 3-4 losses.

Depends on how the team finishes the season. Many are certain that Manny is gone.

I’m taking ****t week by week.

I want Manny gone I don’t think he’s the guy. The team has games left to play. I have no idea if we finish 8-0, 0-8, 4-4 so we just gotta see what we deal with.
