If it’s Mario…

Oregon not extending him is a pretty big tell
What would they have to extend him for? He's not being seriously pursued by anyone but us. And can you really even call us serious at this point? I know people like to delude themselves into thinking this is all on the hush hush but if the AD search is any indication no one at Miami can keep their mouth shut. If it was as far down the road as people are saying there would be a leak to try to stop it.

What’s his contract now? Oregon can easily match anything we can pay him. It comes down to whether his family wants to be here.
That’s the kicker. And I would venture to say that they don’t. If Miami is offering equivalent money, he’s gone.

Not a great comparison. Harbaugh took Stanford out of the cellar and built them into a power. Then he took a lousy San Fran team and built them into a Super Bowl team.

Mario hasn’t done squat yet in comparison to that.

I don't think it will take long he'll compete for the ACC right away.
What's new? Pre season on here says we compete every year no matter whose been the coach. Then the losses start and the predictable "if" posts": "If we win out"; "If Pitt beats VT"; "There's still an outside chance."

Again not saying he’s the same coach! Just getting similar treatment

Mario has shown the ability to win a big game, he has also shown the ability to get his **** blown out on national TV this season, just a few short weeks ago. I would never have believed I would be saying Lane Kiffin is the best choice but he would win here and be off to the NFL in 5 years and we could reload another coach like we did going from Schnelly, Jimmy, Erickson. The talent here makes that possible if used correctly, Kiffin talents matches perfectly with the talent pool in south Florida, it is so obvious even I am coming up with it. Mario has not lit the world on fire on offense, Justin Herbert was so good yet we would need him to go to the NFL to find it out??? That is not the example of Mario's coaching talents, sorry to say. We will spend more money with less payback with Mario vs. Kiffin, this is pretty simple to figure out. Dan Mullen is a better choice than Mario and he was a **** Gator! This bias toward Mario is being done with Green and Orange glasses, people are not thinking straight but that is what we have become used to. Why is picking a coach so difficult for this school and why is picking the wrong choice so **** easy???

It’s pretty obvious that it’s Mario. Guy hasn’t been mentioned for any big jobs whatsoever, despite those schools having interest. Nothing but silence from him.

He hasn't been mentioned because those schools didn't have interest.

He's only considered a Tier 1 coach by Miami

If it’s Mario, Commitment and Infrastructure upgrade automatically…That’s been the most important thing to me from the beginning. Infrastructure and commitment.

I mean we don't even know what's going on with the AD stuff. just a bunch of BS rumors all over the internet

It’s not about his ability to bring in a 5-Star QB. I believe that he definitely can. It’s about his willingness and ability to install an offense that will maximize said QB’s talents.

He has so far not proven that he can. He had Herbert and grossly misused him. That was the biggest complaint from the Oregon fan base. Now he has a very suspect QB leading his troops. Huge red flag, in my opinion.

I like Mario. I think that he’s a good CEO. He’s definitely not an X’s and O’s kind of coach. But if he wants to be elite, he needs to realize at some point that his outdated offensive system is not gonna cut it.

Also, I’m willing to bet that if Cincy and Michigan play in the playoff, Cincy will beat them. Michigan has zero passing game. Their QB sucks. Cincy has a very good defense. They will stop the run and force them to throw it. Cincy’s QB and offense is much better than Michigan’s. They will light them up.

Moorhead is going to Akron so if Mario came here, he'd need a new OC to begin with. He tried to let Anthony Brown pass and has proven that he can't throw for ****.

Michigan would beat Cincy. Cincy hasn't played a good defense since Notre Dame. And Michigans defense is probably better than Notre Dame defense to. Michigan would run the ball, control the clock, make key 3rd down conversions and win.

People like to ignore that fact that EITHER Mario or Lane would want to be paid MARKET. Neither one is going to give Miami some "hometown discount" (though if anyone would, it would be Mario).

People act like a headline-grabbing leak by Lane's agent (I'll take a reasonable offer to coach Miami) is some sort of "hey, pay me $1 a year and a big bonus when we make the ACC-CG" promise.

Lane may be slippery, but he's not stupid. He knows what a "reasonable offer" will be in this current salary-skyrocket environment.

And let's be honest about "salary" anyhow. You take a reasonable offer when you WANT to be in a particular location. Some of these "overpays" are to CONVINCE a coach to leave a good situation for the lure of the unknown.

If Manny wants to move to Miami and leave Oregon, there will be no "bidding war". Phil Knight understands that, but lots of CIS posters seem to think that coaching hires are simply eBay auctions, but with bigger numbers.

Surely an AD has to be hired before Mario right? So given the perceived timeline, an AD should be announced this week…Mario should be announced no later than next Monday, or vice versa, Manny fired by no later than next Monday (same thing to me, in my opinion).

Anything longer than that, and we have been led astray.

im only worried bc its the same stuff as the previous situation (big boosters hand pick their choice HC, AD) and threaten to not support if their guy isn't hired.
I am not sure James was handpicked. He fell into the job after being the interim. He was the former AD at University of Maine. Our last two ADs were in Coral Gables for about the time to finish off a cup of coffee. Athletic Department wasn't in bad shape in 2013. Basketball had just won the ACC. Football team won 9 games. By 2016, football team won its first bowl game in a decade. Basketball made the Sweet 16. Baseball team made the World Series. It was becoming clear by 2018 something was terribly wrong at Hecht. Dude should have been fired on how the whole Diaz affair went down. Baseball program was a mess and basketball was in real trouble, too.

generally an elite QB can take you from being 9-3 to 12-0. I think we may have found it with TVD. hopefully Mario strikes fast with TVD
Also, every half decent team in the coastal has a solid QB graduating. Pickett, Armstrong, and Howell all gone.
