Icoming LB shocks Miami Coaches

Paranos I love ya, but you are comparing this kid to a guy who was a Consensus First Team All American and now a perennial pro bowler.

And the 8th best prospect +/- on his High School team.

As I recall people talked about David at the time as a stud, but no one recruited him because he was a complete lock to have to go to JUCO. But point taken.

Here's the reality check: if this kid were anywhere in the same vicinity as David, he would have had an offer before Signing Day. We only extended the offer after we missed on like 10 other guys. And it seems like grades were not an issue.

If he's that fast why doesn't he just focus on his coverage, and switch to Strong Safety?

He is strictly here because he is a development type player. They will probably bring him in and develope him to a postion depending on if he can gain the weight. He is a poorer mans devin gil. Honestly i would like to keep at linebacker and make our defense faster but we all know thats not als philosophy.

dont really no why he did that..but the skinny on him is that he has the FRAME to carry weight which is why they offered him..hes a definate two years out from playing though.....He needs to come in over 205-210 to make waves int his defense.

Love the speed though. We definatey need speed on our d...cause the numbers dont lie...we aint fast.

Its so much more to being a linebacker.. a quick thinking LB that runs 4.8 40 will play faster than slow thinking 4.5 guy..not saying this kid is a slow thinker..but 40 speed is not the primary attribute for a LB...as a matter of fact fast hands are probably just as important as the 40 for a LB

I remember that group with George Mira, Jr., Rod Carter, Randy Shannon and so on. The guys were almost slow. Mediocre forty times. Like 4.8's if not worse. Made plays though. Randy was a good diagnostician, in particular. Rather have those guys' attributes plus speed. We started getting that with the Bermuda Triangle. Of course that group was killed by cutbacks in that Sugar Bowl.

That is fast for a Linebacker...

IF HE WAS A LINEBACKER.

He's 189lbs.

Stop obsessing over weight. How heave was grace at the same age? These burner types are fine. Of course not all your LBs are going to be his size but it's nothing bad. Guys like armstead, Darin smith, etc were all that size at that age. Imo, if he gets up to 230 in year 3, he's fine. Besides, these types of kids are great assets for special teams coverage units.

I was done in Miami for a week watching practice... 1st of all Grace is the most talented of the LBs now... Darion is my favorite...but i notice when Grace made contact with a linemen he was out of the play... and one play Gus look like he was driving a bus when he ran through Grace...in the film room the next day Hurlie told Grace this is what happens when a 204 lbs LB runs into a man playing RB

10.7 is Elite speed for a DB and awesome for a LB or safety. That was round about what DVD ran in high school if I remember

Anyone know what this was about? Posted on Rivals

Dropped under 200lbs to run track when he was told he needed to gain weight, Ran a 10.7 which is national elite but won't help him get on the field as LB.

That speed will come in very handy on Special Teams coverage. Being realistic, I'm not sure anyone expected more from this kid out of high school anyway - he's a high 2 / low 3 star prospect. If those Swag 2016 LBs stick, this kid won't see the field

With that kind of long speed he can really fly around and make plays.

He could literally build up speed like an airplane, propel himself in to the air, and then fly around and make plays.

Is it a NCAA violation if I hook him up with my most recent design?

First off...you're talking to the wrong one if you're thinking that I obsess about weight.

Second...all I said is that it's fast for a Linebacker, if he was a Linebacker. (which, at 189lbs, he's not right now)

Yeah, I was mainly directing it at the common theme in this thread and other threads that have a hard time with weight.

On the other hand, you say you don't obsess about weight yet you say he's not a LB because he's 189 pounds. Those 2 statements don't really go, imo. Many 230 LB types in college are in the 190 range as JRs in HS.

Yea but hes about to graduate. 189 to 230 probably wont happen. Maybe 220 but he will probably be 215 tops.
