I would love to see Miami run up the score on Pitt at home this year

I get ****ed when I think about the Pitt game. From a schematic standpoint...there were so many plays there for the taking.

I saw Narduzzi at a clinic in March and he was talking about his press-quarters coverage. It's basically Cover-0.
So I went back and watched the game on youtube. (and it confirmed why I think we need a legit OC)

Pitt plays Quarters coverage (Cover-4) with a press alignment on the outside WR's. They're basically in man agains the #1 WR's.
Their Safeties line-up roughly 8-10 yards off of the #2 (slot) WR's and they make a flat-foot read (no backpedaling). They're responsible for the #2 WR running vertical, bubble or deep-out. It's basically like playing man from 8-10 yards off depth.
That's why we had a little success throwing bubbles against Pitt cause their Safety has to run 8-10 yards down-hill and make a tackle in the open field. (difficult)

The **** deep-out (8-10 yards) to the slot WR would've been open ALL **** DAY! We didn't throw it. Matter of fact, we're so **** stupid on offense that we ran four verticals like 87 times instead. (four verticals won't be open against Cover-4, dumb call)
The one time we sent our slot WR on an out-breaking route was a post-corner to Berrios. He was wide open. The ball was slightly behind him and he dropped it.

Any time you get this version of Quarters you should be killing the defense with your slot WR's. It should've been the Berrios & Thomas show all day, for chunks. ****, for crying out loud, any time WE LINE-UP in this version of Quarters offenses attack our Safeties with their slots. LOL

We won a couple battles on the outside. Thomas and Richards beat their CB's deep on separate plays but Rosier missed the throw. Regardless, we should've been stealing yards to our slots all day and we didn't. This is very alarming to me because this is like the simplest way to beat Quarters and we were oblivious.

This is how Pitt lines up against the spread.

The OLB (red arrows) is supposed to line-up at an apex between the Offensive Tackle and the #2 WR. He's got a hard job. He's responsible for filling the B-gap (or C-gap) during a run, and covering the #2 WR on an out. As you can tell though, he's already out-leveraged on the outside. It's impossible for him to cover any decent slot WR on an out-breaking route, especially if it's play-action cause he has to read run first. He's also responsible for running vertical with the #2 WR, so running four verticals will NEVER been open.
The field Safety is basically man-to-man on the #2 WR.
The CB is man-to-man on the #1 WR.

We threw a bubble to Berrios on this play and the Safety failed to tackle him. Easy yards. We do it again to Herndon a couple plays later for a bigger gain.

Their alignment again. How do/can they cover Harris on a 10 yard out-route?

Here it is in motion. Look how the Safety is inside leverage of Berrios and has ZERO chance of covering him on an out-route.

FRUSTRATING.

It's actually not a bad strategy by Narduzzi/Pitt.

The coverage is designed to put more guys in the box versus the run + take away the easy throws in the middle of the field. You force the offense to throw the ball outside (verticals and deep-outs) which are lower percentage throws that require more accuracy from your QB.

Still though, as an OC you need to be attempting those throws. It's the only way to make Pitt uncomfortable.
We could've thrown bubble, quick hitch and deep-outs to our slots all **** day. Instead, we played right into their hands. Their strategy looks genius when you take into account that Rosier missed the only 2 verticals that came open.

His first 3 games coaching at Miami we won by a combined margin of 153-23, yet it still wasn't enough to shake that "conservative" label he brought over from UGA. He never scored 70 at UGA. Did it in his very first game coaching Miami.

He wasnt conservative at UGA either. Here are some scores from his final 2 years at UGA

45-21 clemson
66-0 troy
44-17 Vanderbilt
34-0 Missouri
63-31 Kentucky
34-7 Auburn
55-9 Charleston southern
37-14 Louisville
52-20 USCe
48-6 Southern
27-3 Kentucky

No they really didn't. Wasn't **** open.

You've got your head stuck on basically 2 plays...the deep balls to Richards and Thomas.

I’m not watching that abortion again, but there were other plays where receivers were open that Rosier just simply missed or didn’t throw to for whatever reason.

It's Pitt.... fck their Coverage **** aint Einstein level type ****. it's basic, we didnt lose bc of scheme we lost bc we didnt come to play and they did. 9 times out of 10 we beat Pitt like we always do.

it should be easy to run up the score. Kayya lit them up 2 years ago & if Rosier can be accurate
they can light them up. Pitt like Mich.ST.U leaves CB's on islands and they cannot hang with our group.
last year actaully our guys were running wide open but Rosier had his worst game of season and could not hit a wall
