Florida Seminole Harry Jumper paints a canoe to be awarded to the winner of the Florida – Miami football game: Hollywood Seminole Indian Reservation, Dania, Florida (1955)

There also was the Florida cup for the state winner of Florida, FSU and Miami. I remember the canoe, wonder where it went?

Seems we may have kept it?

Old report about the canoe!

Last I heard we kept it and refused to give it back because it was the trophy for our annual game that they ended. We won the last one in 1987, hence we kept the canoe.

There was discussion about it in Jim Martz's book if I recall.

last i heard it's somewhere in our trophy case bc it was for the annual rivalry not the random 1 for 1's with a neutral site that we play now.

There was in his first book, written in the early'80's. At one point, the canoe had disappeared. I remember visiting the UM media office back in the late '80's and talking to a reporter about it. At that point, at least one reporter, probably from the Herald, was looking for it.

I don't remember whether it was mentioned in Martz's subsequent book.

Somehow, I have the feeling it might have been found.

Thanks for the information, shows how old I am to recall the canoe. That game in 1987 the gator was favored and we scored all the points in the game, they got 4 on two safeties where our center centered the ball out of the end zone. I had a lot of bets on that game with gator associates plus bragging right s until we met again. Best I ever felt after a game, didn't want to leave the OB total annihilation of the gator and their season. Felt better then ***, well almost!

I was at that 1987 game as an 8 year old with my dad. When we were walking out, he tells me that it will be a long time until we play UF again. I asked him why as I didn’t understand college football scheduling. The response that I got from my very reserved CPA father, “because they are a bunch of PU$$IE$”!
