This And our run defense was shoddy against unc
Stop with the bloated numbers crap. Every other top team has played two walkovers as well at this point in the season. You fools act like we are the only ones to play some softies so far.
This And our run defense was shoddy against unc
I don't think its about alignment. I think its the fact the the DL can pick whichever gap they choose to create havoc, and that leaves some gaps un manned. No D was all about gap integrity and it was useless. The thing i don't get is, in 2016 we didn't have the problems we have in stopping the run....generally.
Which one of our DE's is and edge setter? Joe Jackson and Garvin aren't the guys. Are we scheming to fit our personnel?
That why I want him to run more 3-4 fronts.
Look at this game it Manny's Miss St defense from 2015. Manny ran a 4-3 front for 3 QTRs and got GASHED BADLY. So what did Manny do in the 4th QTR? He went to a 3-4 front basically running the same scheme and LSU had no where near the success they had running the ball. LSU was doing things the same things UNC was doing (in different forms) in terms of having 2 backs in the back field, heavy TE sets, etc.
How do we know they're not the guys? Are we putting them in position to make plays/set the edge?
We're putting them in a position to make plays by letting them do what they do best and that's get into the backfield and cause chaos. I'm picturing coach D'Onfrio saying the same thing as you in coaches meeting room right before he proposes putting 20 lbs on each of our ends so they can "set the edge".
So you want more 3-4 because it worked once? Or do you believe that the 3-4 is better SCHEMATICALLY?
Like, what's your reasoning?
But we do run odd fronts.No.. Clemson and Michigan also run 3-4 fronts to give offenses a different look. I just don't think it smart to only have 1 front to you all the time to help stop the run.
As the video showed it help stopped what LSu was doing maybe it could of help in the UNC game.
Those are bloated numbers because of FIU, Savannah State, and Toledo....
I'm shocked that you have not submitted a resume for Defensive Coordinator. I'm sure Richt would make that move.Run more defensive fronts. Some 3-4 looks, some Wide 9 looks, SOMETHING! I feel like we only use 2 defensive fronts most of the game. We did not do ANYTHING to stop UNC's outside runs which opened up their middle run game IMO. And no I'm not just talking about a pass rushing packages, I'm talking about some fronts to help stop the run especially to help set the edge since we're so bad at doing that from our basic 4-3 alignment.
It weird though because Manny ran some 3-4 front looks at Mississippi State but here he ONLY does a basic 4-3 alignment. Teams like Clemson or Michigan, some of the elite defenses that run the 4-3, has different looks and fronts. Manny runs the same front down after down making him so predictable in terms of what the offense is going to see. He does nothing to confuse the offensive line's blocking assignment on run plays.
I think Manny needs to also look at last year's Penn State and TCU on defense especially the way their LBers are coached. They run the SAME EXACT shoot gap 4-3 scheme and Penn State finished 17th in rush defense (119 per) and TCU finished 4th (99 per) last year. He need to look at how Penn State and TCU, who runs the same exact scheme, are able to keep the edge on their defenses.
IDK about that but I know you are one ugly mother ******But we do run odd fronts.

He's 100% correct....we DO run odd fronts.....IDK about that but I know you are one ugly mother ******
I agree totally! For this game, after watching FSU play, as long as our DTs (Willis) creates his usual havoc on the interior and our DEs pinch in and contain there is nothing that FSUs line can do about it, if we can contain Akers, and Frenchie with our current 4-3 formation we will be watching another NC game were we take control of the game in their backfield. We're putting them in a position to make plays by letting them do what they do best and that's get into the backfield and cause chaos.
