I was reading some cfp rules that I've seen noone mention in print or otherwise --No team with more than 3 losses is guaranteed a playoff spot regardless of ranking/ conference champ bid--

So the cfp could theoretically leave Duke out and give us their ACC bid since we're higher ranked. That would still leave one G5 champion & 2 at-large bids, which they could give to ND & Bama. If they pull that card they'd fit everyone into the playoff haha

Technically, I dont believe this can happen.

If Duke doesn’t get in then that means there will be a minimum of 2 G5 teams (JMU and Tulane).

One will take the highest ranked conference champ (Tulane) and the other would occupy the G5 a lot (JMU).

Honestly, Duke will never amount to anything I n CFB and 8-5 is a comfortable season for Duke and Manny. He could stay there indefinitely and enjoy what Duke would call success.
 
Theres no such thing as a required conference bid. Committee won’t care at all about leaving us out because 7-5 duke won this crappy conference. It’ll be

9 ND
10 Bama
11 Miami
