Miami wasted no time locking down a local target, securing the commitment of defensive back Sherrod Gourdine --- the second commitment today.

A Broward County native, Gourdine picked UM over Kentucky, Louisville, Cal, UNC and Florida

The frame doesn’t jump out at 5-foot-10 and 177 pounds, but Gourdine checks all the boxes and some to make up for it.



His footwork is impressive, able to cut and change directions with ease while also staying in sync with his upper body. Moreover, Gourdine “plays up”, able to physically battle with any wideout lined across him and make big tackles when called upon.

It’s the obvious comparison, but Gourdine shows shades of a D’Angelo Ponds type of cornerback.

Ponds, at 5-foot-9, locked down some of the best receivers in the country this past season — the Hurricanes would be overjoyed if Gourdine could develop into that mold.

Like many of Miami’s 2026 cornerback class, Gourdine has a two-way background and displays impressive ball skills. His combination of physicality and playmaking ability is why the Hurricanes staff view him as the “nickel” corner of the class.

"The coaches, they love their kids," Gourdine told me this afternoon. "This is the best position for me."

Miami was one of the first power 4 programs to offer Gourdine in 2024, as now Director of Recruiting Relations Frank Tucker publicly pushed for more national recognition for the defensive back.



Gourdine becomes the seventh commitment in Miami’s 2027 class, joining high school teammate Jaylyn Jones in the defensive back room.

"Miami's getting two dogs that wanna come in and compete every day, we're trying to win the national championship with the 'U'," Jones said to me this afternoon.

The Hurricanes 2027 defensive back room board continues to develop with multiple prospects involved, namely with the possible reclassification of 2028 target A'mir Sears. Expect the board to continue to shake up as the recruiting cycle heats up.

6'0" 185lbs and ran a 4.38 going into his senior year. He would've never gotten past this current staff. Unfortunately Frank Tucker wasn't at UM yet (because he was actually on Fabian's high school team! Lol)

And Adrienne Talan was another one. I ended up being wrong about that one though. He didn't pan out due to mental stuff.

neither he weighs more than both coming out....not as fast but more physical.

both those guys are nfl guys so im hoping he has their trajectory.
