I am happy they took their time and got the call right, but I thought penalties weren't reviewable??? Someone correct me if I am wrong. I am glad of the outcome and so happy we won, but I am quite certain penalties (other than targeting) aren't reviewable...

It was not about a penalty. It was whether a knee was down...

What's HILARIOUS is they missed the one blatant block in the back on Redwine early in the play.

They probably didn't think any harm would come from it.

OOPS!!!! YOU THOUGHT!!!!!!...

I was thinking the same thing, at the same time I was certain some ref was going to call a penalty on that play.

The field refs were trying to give the game to Duke. The review crew were honest.

It was about a penalty. The penalty should've negated everything that happened. They were initially reviewing to see where the ball would be spotted for the untimed down and then suddenly they started talking about a player's knee being down.

I bet they looked at it and realized that they would be lambasted for calling a questionable penalty on the greatest play in CFB this year. Once they realized how bad they were about to make themselves look, they decided to pick up the flag and focus on the knee which was never the issue to begin with. Penalties aren't reviewable, but with these refs, anything goes

It was both. The ref who explained the replay ruling said that the knee wasn't down AND something about how the block was from the side instead of the back.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the ACC nullify the TD later tonight or tomorrow. They can't let their beloved basketball schools lose to a newcomer in their private estate. Meanwhile, Dorito is probably *********ing in the shower to celebrate his victorious defense.

It was the burns block. But how did they make that determination? Not by video review. That's not allowed. By discussion?

Great point. I imagine that's what happened. Otherwise, it's hard to fathom how the Duke coach didn't raise cane about it.

They essentially picked up the flag, which you are allowed to do. It was the right call. There were 2 clear blocks in the back way down the field. Who cares, I'm not sure the Duke QB was even in, Young made a great play.

True. Should've known it was Walton since he was one of the Corn 8!

They can pick up a flag after a discussion. That happens, not a lot, but it happens. Maybe the refs discussed the block while the knee-ground question was being reviewed on the video. If they decided that the block was ok, then the ref should have said that the flag was picked up. There doesn't have to be an explanation about picking up the flag and they should not refer to the video review in such a case. However, the ref could have made the issue clear for everyone by volunteering the explanation of why the flag was picked up. The final PI calls demonstrate that these guys are dolts, so it is no surprise that the ref could not articulate the matter very well.
