Not sure where that rumor started but I’ve seen it a few places. Your pell grant becomes owed back if you don’t finish the academic period at that school.

And all you have to do is tell the school you’re at to transfer it to the new school and you still get it

Schools also aren’t allowed to cash out or refund an athlete of additional funds until after the last day to withdraw from a course. So whoever made that up is a clown

That's not how Pell Grants work. There's about 100 UM football alums who can confirm that for you.

Not exactly.

They may have reasons why they do not want to give coaches or teammates a week or two to try to convince them not to leave.

When Earl Little was at Michigan and Gary Moeller wouldn't approve of him going back to Miami to visit his family after Hurricane Andrew, Earl just left Ann Arbor and never went back.

Some kids prefer to do things that way for finality, they don't want to deal with the pressure to get them to change their minds to stay.
