I Rewatched the Five Straight 3-and-outs

I don’t get everyone who keeps saying “why are you overreacting?” To pretty tame critical posts of Dawson and/or our offense.

Many saw and pointed out our brutally obvious inefficiencies in both ‘24 and ‘25 that ultimately led to not 1 but 2 losses.

As our HC says “the standard is the standard” and the 2nd half offense was extremely short of that standard. It’s not guaranteed gloom and doom but we need to hope Dawson and the offense get better and respond when getting punched in the mouth.
 
I will say this. If Wake had played the offense like they did in the 2nd half in the 1st we would have put up 35+. Wake plan was not to get their doors blown off so they went soft in the first half hoping to keep the scoring low enough to have some shot at a comeback. After we went up 31-7 in the third Wake felt they had nothing to lose and went all out on defense. Injuries were piling up for us and defense was holding. Was really no reason to try and run up the score at the risk of more injuries.

Dawson is Jekyll and Hyde. Sometimes good, sometimes terrible. I'm assuming guys being dinged up changed the game and play calling, but is was really just typical Dawson. He's never out schemed anybody. Never. Doesn't matter who the opponent is, same play calling. Very easy to figure out for opposing coaches.

Spot on. It felt like the guys getting dinged scared him into conservative play calling. Tried to just get out there without any more injuries

On that run during the first three-and-out, he was sacked and then went down hard after a sideline scramble on back-to-back plays. After the second play, Josh Moore had to help him up.

He wasn't the same after that.
 
1. Malachi Toney hurt on the play that came at the 2 minute mark of the 2nd quarter
2. Fletcher hard helmet/shoulder hit on 1st drive of 3rd quarter at the 11 minute mark, would have only 1 more run in the game
3. Mensah banged up on back-to-back plays at the 3 minute mark of the 3rd quarter

I’m not saying he’s has no talent, but he’s clearly a fb and playing out of position. He’s a mid TE, maybe a better fb. If he’s gonna make it to the next level it will be as a fb.

We're not going to sit here and make excuses. You don't need to analyze it in depth.

Dawson called a string of retarded plays bc hes retarded.

He hasn't learned and neither have Cristobal and Mirabal. Outside runs, and some play action setups to throw downfield would have got the offense going, but they want to force it up SJs ***, call the same screen, and throw to a TE.

Coaching scared.

We made it to the natty last year. That's thr standard.

We're not making excuses anymore.
 
From the get go, people were crowning this team with a Natty this year. I never bought that. A contender, of course. But last year is just that, behind us. This year similar challenges, different personnel. A mix of older players and very young talented kids. The learning curve begins anew, camp and early season games, PT reps and muscle memory, and absorbing hits and injuries and how we react to it all. To expect last years reaction to it all to carry over is unrealistic. Is there a culture carry over, yes. But, expecting the same leadership skills at this time , from players and coaches is unrealistic. The way we practice, train and prepare is imprinted on our culture. Facing adversity and injuries is by some instinct but mostly learned behavior. It took until the SMU loss last year for that to kick in and the players/ coaches leasdership skills to come forward. But, we had more vets. The Blureprint is there, the talent is there. But, when and who will pickup the mantle of leadership. Adversity pushes the envelope, iron sharpens iron. Looking forward to see who steps up and leads this team🙌🏽GO CANES
 
Cantwell should be playing RT, have no idea why he’s not. He’s gonna up against our DEs in practice as a LT and performed fine. Take your lumps with him early so he can learn and be ready for the good teams.

Samson-Buchanan-RR-Cantwell-McCoy. That is clearly your best 5. And I don’t think it matters between whether Cantwell or McCoy plays tackle or guard. They both need to be starting though and next to each other.
