Hence, Heatherman's focus on swarming and tackling. Odds are that most college offenses will experience a drop or a penalty at some point, derailing the drive.

People get too caught up in sacks and tfls. When the O is getting the ball out fast because they know you're going to get them if they don't, it severely limits what plays they can run. It's why Miami kept getting the ball back. I'd take the D that gives up fewer points and yards than the one that gets more sacks but also more points, yards, time of possession, etc.

If anything, knowing how to play D when the O is getting the ball out quick will ultimately lead to some pretty crazy results. Just not sacks.

Defense hasn't given up a touchdown in 2 games and we have people fretting that it is 2024 all over again on defense

… and people are making definitive predictions that our defense is going to suck. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. But none of you ****ers know, but some of you are porsting so that you can come back later with receipts and say I told you so. It’s a mental illness.
 
The reason why the Stanford game was so impressive to me, was that I actually thought they were a decent team that played well against us. Usually in a blowout against a P4 team like that the losing team looks like ****. Multiple turnovers, terrible qb, tons of penalties etc. No.

Besides some drops (which did hurt them a lot), their QB was on time and accurate. They did not have turnovers. They did not play undisciplined (besides holds that were necessary because they were beat).

That QB was hitting dudes on the money. Their passing attack was sneaky and well designed, creating mismatches with their tight ends. I just don't see teams on our schedule being able to recreate that. And even if they do, we will still score 50 on them.
 
The defense can still be good but its clearly not gonna be elite like last year. Losing 4 impact players matters. But with this offense we can go very far if not win it all if defense is just solid and dependable. I think we can follow a similar formula to LSU 2019 where that unit was very good on D but not exactly dominant shutting everyone out either. Our offense is gonna score a lot on everybody so just don't be a Lance Guidry unit and we will be just fine.

How are you people making these sweeping statements after TWO games where we gave up 6 points TOTAL??
 
curious to see some 4 WR sets with Dre Jacobs and Mensah. Jacobs speed and Mensahs ability to drop bombs from the sky is a combination id like to see.
 
When fans say this is a problem or that, we are saying that and assuming it’s when we play top teams. No one is worried about the ACC bruh. If other fans can’t understand that get off the forum gang, it’s crazy that this has to be explained.

I keep hearing “we will see what we got Friday” - but Wake Forest is currently in OT with Purdue. So, will we really see what we got?

I get that 100% but the people acting like Wakes some ultimate test that our D has to prove themselves for seems ridiculous. I’m here to debate if this squad gets it done come playoffs but I don’t see how anyone can make any definitive statements on our team after the first two games. **** we might not get tested until ND in November…
