I have good news and bad news

I used to be on Shadow’s board a lot. I went to my first home game this year. I am commenting on personnel.

Good news:

We have improved on the lines. No question. You’d expect Mario to do that and he has—mostly.

Borregales is an excellent kicker.

Mark Fletcher played well. He’s going to be very good.

LB corps had a rough day but can see growth there. Wes needs to be told where to line up constantly

Bad News:

We lack and have lacked difference makers for 20 years. We have ONE, Reuben Bain. He’s a freshman, he’s played a ton of snaps and is still our best DL. Great teams have 3 or 4.

See above on DL, Harrison hunte is playing well but other than that we could be wake forest.

Our RBs are slow. No other notes. 2 or 3 times today there were holes where excellent fast running backs get 40+ and we got 8-12 yards.

Our WRs are barely above average. Young is the one with the highest ceiling but the separation was pretty minimal. Restrepo is above average but is so athletically deficient that he makes defenses bend but not break

Our DBs aren’t fast enough to be this middling technique wise.

Safeties — woof. Kinchens gambles. When he guesses right he makes the interception. When he doesn’t he’s a pretty slow pretty small safety. JW… decent. That’s it. Average.

None of this attempts to describe the horror show that is Cristobal’s game day management.
You don’t need separation when you’re 6’5 and can break tackles after the catch. That being said, we are using him so wrong!! He’s literally 1v1 all game! We throw him screens instead of fades, slants and comebacks. Horrible!! Especially when we in the red zone and need to pass for a TD! Throw the fade to your 6’5 wr and it’s either a TD, drop, or INT. 66 percent chance of something good happening. But instead we run some dumb *** plays back to back to back.

Hey brother! I remember you! Good to see you again after all these years. Yep you pretty much nailed it. What really irks me is that even with our deficiencies in terms of difference makers, good GameDay coaching has us at 8-3 maybe 9-2. @Cribby was spot on in his post this afternoon. Mario coaches to extend games not to win them. Notice our playing style when we are behind and compare it to when we are tied or ahead. When we fall behind we get serious about moving the ball down the field. When we are tied or ahead, he shuts it all down and slows it down and gets super conservative and predictable and basically hopes that one of our RBs break a long run of that one of our WR screens break. We never make teams pay for crowding the line and sitting on our predictable inside zone. Then his time management is abysmal.

The defense missed LT is an enormous way. LT has low key had himself an AA year and his presence inside is what makes everything else possible. I'm not going to rip Guidry. He has been excellent all year and has done the best with what he has. He has taken a thin and beat up front and has made it work somehow for most of the year. Losing LT however was too much to overcome.

Cristobal is 2-5 since starting out 4-0 and I have to think that this precipitous drop off has a good deal to do with the abortion that was the last 2 minutes of the Georgia Tech game. When you look at all of the elements contained in the clown show at the end of the GT game it encapsulates what this squad is under Mario. Horror show is right as Cristobal is easily the worst game day coach I've ever seen at Miami. It isn't really about the general style we run on offense or defense or which unit played bad on a particular day. The very crux of our issues this season is the absolutely abhorrent game management, time management, game day coaching, strategy or lack thereof and the inability or unwillingness to want to take control of games. Cristobal loves to talk tough but he will never have the stones to aggressively take the game over. There are in every game crucial junctures that have a huge impact on the momentum and ultimately the outcome of the game. It is at those junctures that Cristobal routinely hides under the bleachers too afraid to make big decisions. It is at these times where Cristobal always reverts to who he is at the core of his being and makes the decision based on playing not to lose instead of playing to win. It is this unfortunate and ugly reality that will always prevent Mario from winning anything of consequence no matter how much talent he acquires. The only exception to this is if his team is head and shoulders more talented than the opposition which was the case in the PAC FUDGE conference when he won it twice. At Miami he is 11-12 overall and 5-10 in the ACC.

Not entirely true. Mauigoa and Flagg lack speed in coverage. Cloyd can run and just about all the young LBs can run. It isn't like we need to go out and get fast LBs. They're already on the team. They're just young and haven't played other than special teams.

TE is also in good shape speed wise. For whatever reason they don’t play Skinner. Arroyo can run, but he's injured, and Riley Williams has + speed at his position.

CB needs to continue recruiting speed. I think we have a couple of young guys with speed.

I definitely would like to see an athletic QB. The guys with speed at WR don't play.

I agree speed needs to be a priority in recruiting certain positions. We need guys that scare the opposition.
You sound like we’re a top 10 team. We don’t need to improve talent. We got talent everywhere. Lol

the good news
EVERYONE on our OL is improved and they are young.

Kiko has improved.
Freshman like Damari, Bain, Fletcher, and Riley williams are getting alot of time and improving.

Wes has improved but still makes mistakes.

A healthy porter, Damari, and Richard can be a good top 3 at cb. Hopefully Stafford comes along.

Mario recruits seem more talented, smarter, AND disciplined.

upperclassmen are weak mentally. I mean the mistakes Couch, chaney, the safeties, Flagg, Brashard make are crazy.
I want to cut George a little slack because 2 weeks in a row no pi calls but he should know better.

back to flagg. At least our safeties our explosive, JW Is always out of place but he and Kam at least make big plays. It's a trade off.
flagg cant make a play even when he diagnoses it. What is this make a wish charity case stuff? this kid can't get to the hole, misses gaps all the time and when he finally makes a play he gets praised. they treat him like some special needs player. He belongs in the g5 or as a GA. we have enough young lb's they should play. why would a kid come to play behind this?

couch needs to go. even DJ I vy didnt almost kill his own teammate.

We need to continue to recruit at a high level.

It is mind boggling that schools with recruiting rankings in the 30's - 40's are competitive and some even better than our team.

As I've said previously, other schools do more with less, and we do less with more.

Cristobal is going to address all these problems through his recruiting magic.

RB - Kevin Riley will be a baller
CB- Ellis Robinson IV is going to be the best corner we've had in years
DL - reliable sources have said we will get multiple whales, maybe best DL class ever
Playmakers- everyone says we need an Aaron Burr quality "duel threat" QB. We finally got one in Judd the Stud Anderson!

Flagg has been very good this year.

Flagg can’t diagnose and make a play? Did you forget the game winning play vs Clemson?

I’m currently trying to figure out if all Mario does is go after 4 or 5 star recruits that are good players but lack speed. He needs to recruit players that are fast even if they’re a 3 star. Develop those players.
The DE he just landed is a 3 star from Alabama who is cat quick for a guy 6'5". I get what you're saying, but there is hope. We do need more team speed.

Exactly. No point of recruiting 4 or 5 stars if they have no speed. There’s gotta be someone in South Florida everyone is over looking that is fast af.
