I give you all my word, I'll let it go after this...

Exactly.

I will never work to defend our 2004 team, but our 2005 team was kicking ***. We were 8-1 heading into a HOME game against GaTech. If we score one more TD, we beat GaTech, and then we beat UVa the next week. We would be 10-1 and playing for the ACC-CG in a rematch against a SEVEN-WIN SemenHole team (after losing that disastrous Labor Day mess in Doak by the massive score of 10-7).

That's it. A 3-point loss in the first game of the season, and a 4-point loss against GaTech immediately after the Seventh Floor Crew scandal. We had just beaten #3 VaTech on the road just 2 games before the GaTech botch job.

That 2005 team should have won the ACC. And even if USC and Texas were both undefeated and aced us out of the BCS Championship game, then we still had a chance to finish #2 by beating Pedo State in the Orange Bowl.
TOC, to this day, i still don't know what happened that Gatech game in 2005. Our OC made adjustments with Kyle Wright in prior games following the fsu loss earlier in year. We schemed around things to help Wright get the ball out to our playmakers quicker, and mixed in screens, our run game, and we were successful against other acc teams including vatech in blacksburg that year. It was like we forgot what got us to that point facing gatech with everything riding on the line.

Was it just the 7th floor crew stuff or was it also gatech's coaches massively outcoached our offensive coaches that day? maybe a combo.

It seemed we were sleepwalking on offense for most of that gatech game in 2005. It was one of the most frustrating losses in last 25 years to watch that gatech game. darnell jenkins, greg olsen, all our playmakers were absent and our OL did terrible defending Gatech's rush.

Look, as a guy who mocks F$U fans for making "The Snub" excuse even years later, I'm no fan of a team being knocked off its momentum by some relatively minor scandal.

But after years of the "New Sheriff in Town" P.R. stuff about Butch, we actually had a Miami team that was NOT known for its off-field antics. Suddenly, out of nowhere, various writers (especially that scumbag Pat Forde) were calling our guys "thugs" again, and for WHAT? An existing song to which a few players rapped some freestyle verses? Are you KIDDING me?

And like it or not, with all the uncertainty of those times and the exploding coverage of the new-ish internet, suddenly "Seventh Floor Crew" stuff took off and it really came at a terrible time. That "scandal" did just enough damage to derail the season.

Here's the e-mail I sent to Pat Forde, when he tweeted out some nonsense about The Gator "being aware of the rumors" about basketball coach Todd Golden before awarding him a lucrative contract extension:

Mr. Forde,

Your selectivity and double-standards on how you report sexual-type misconduct in college athletics is legendary, going back to your "oh my lord, the Seventh Floor Crew scandal at Miami is the worst thing ever", even as you ignored an almost identical story at Michigan.

I'm sure you don't remember it, but I sent you an e-mail over 20 years ago, and you responded with a bunch of nonsense that NEVER acknowledged your double-standards of reporting your "outrage" on one story and your complete ignorance of nearly the same story at another school.

History has proven me to be right and you to be wrong. After DECADES of sportswriters such as yourself spewing outrage at the small transgressions at urban schools like Miami, all while your sportswriter fraternity IGNORED the seamy stories at "well-behaved Big 10 schools" like Penn State and Michigan State and Ohio State.

Do not even TRY to ignore the story with Todd Golden at the University of Florida by minimizing it with "oh, but Florida was aware of the rumors". It is actually MUCH MUCH WORSE that Florida knew about the "rumors" in February, then gave Golden an EXTENSION, and then did not even begin investigating until August.

Again, I know you don't remember the e-mail I sent to you over 20 years ago, and I'm sure you can't remember your half-hearted and defensive response. But you made a couple of comments about how you've "heard from" women at various schools, as if you had some special insights and first-hand accounts of the impact.

OK, so let's leave things at this juncture. I am an alum of both the University of Miami and the University of Florida. BUT MY NIECE CURRENTLY GOES TO THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA AS AN UNDERGRAD. And I would be absolutely sickened and beside myself to find out that Todd Golden was stalking her and sending her ****-pics. I know where my niece lives in Gainesville, it is very close to the basketball facility, she is just on the other side of University Boulevard.

So, please, if your Tweet was overly brief and misleading, set the record straight. If you are going to finally and belatedly stand up for those women who make accusations against athletes and coaches, do it with some consistency. Don't try to act like "knowing about the rumors" is the same as "waiting six months to even begin an investigation".

You were incredibly disappointing over 20 years ago with your reporting. Be better this time around.

Sincerely,

***

Not to derail the topic but I wish a letter like this could be sent to the director of the ACC officiating crew to call them out on their cheating against Miami every single game, not bad or no calls on Miami......CHEATING

Words can’t describe how much I can’t stand Pat Forde (and the other ***** he used to podcast with).
