You can’t have a tough hard nosed football team wifh a coach who never played. I always say it. Football is different because of the level of violence. You think kids look at manny and get hyped?

Paul Johnson, cuncliffe, manny, leach, all never played and are good on one side of ball and manny run gimmicks

Amen brother! I’ve been saying it since the bum got hired right around this time last year. No one in this game which takes every bit of blood, sweat and tears to make it in respects a guy like Diaz who never even played at the college level. The dude played a little pop warner and high school ball and that’s the end of the story! Complete ******* jag!

I thought about this also. I personally prefer a coach that has played the game.

Of the all-time greatest coaches, there are a slew of them who did not play at a high level. Guys like Belichick, Levy, even Paul Brown (basically a dude who changed how the game is played) had minimal experience (if any). The argument has been trashed plenty of times. Now if you're saying literally never played football with pads on, that might be a different argument. Haven't seen the research on that.

Football is different because of the violence. Look at coaches who didn’t play. All gimmicks. He’s a skinny little guy, you think kids fear him the same way as a guy like Mario who is still hitting the weights? In so fla it’s different. You gotta be a killer.

I get belichick played D-3 but he was still getting hit by 18-22 year olds

LOL no . I can understand why someone at a basic level would think that and in general it makes sense but if you are around football long enough you know football . As Lu said the argument has been put to bed with facts.

A lot of the top Coaches to ever do it didn’t play the game at a high level..that’s true in Baseball, football and Basketball

There really are tons of data points about guys who didn't play at a high level and ended up being more than successful - being innovators. Gus Malzahn is a college example who never played at a "high level." There are even more in the NFL. This came up about a decade ago on Canestime.com. Someone said basically you had to play in the NFL to be a legit coach and "know" football. I know that's not your argument exactly.

By the way, Manny's biggest failure this past year had nothing to do with his playing days. He could have thrown 250k to an experienced HR director and made a better decision than hiring Enos (who hired his buddies to come along).

Manny played in high school at Miami country day.
Who cares! Means nothing! Everyone makes the highschool football team just like pop warner and on top of that country day football is joke amongst south Florida football highschool football teams.

N

one year is better then none! Atleast he had enough skill and smarts when it came to the game to get a ******* scholarship!

I could be wrong but I believe he was on lacrosse scholarship and played football additionally on the side.
