I know the temptation will be to rag on fraggle here and when people see the OP they go with the default response. But I kind of agree. Professional sport has so much change that the localisation of players and fans was what kept cfb pretty special. It is a little different now. Not better or worse, just different.

Even if we start landing consistent top 5 classes year after year , Mario will always pick up a better player that is available in the portal. Every recruiting bust should be filled with a Transfer.

Maybe I'm wrong but I believe there are a few thousand die-hards who know most, if not all, of the players . The majority of fans can name the star players, and that's it.

I enjoy the winning, just find it isn't the same feeling as you have if you've been following the team roster and the progress of specific players. It was even better when I knew some of our players personally.
Your kid is on a team but you don't know the others on the roster but you go to your kids football game and he sits on the bench. Its being vested or not that makes it different.
