Five-star cornerback Donte Wright made the cross-country trip all the way from California to visit the Miami Hurricanes this weekend. A Georgia commit since last summer, Wright is exploring his options as a final decision looms over the next few months. I caught up with the California native following his visit and here’s what he had to say:
On what stood out about his visit:
“They take ball serious here. You're going to have the fun life outside of ball but, you know, they really lock in on their craft and try to win big things here.
“I'd just say the physicality, everybody playing hard, everybody playing at full speed and trying to get better.”
“I always had high expectations of Miami, they just reached all those expectations. I feel Miami is a big contender for sure in my recruitment.”
On his fit in Miami’s defensive scheme:
“I would say I fit in perfectly. Talking with [Heatherman], he told me that he's trying to get into more man coverage and press coverage.”
“I feel that's the best part of my game is being able to press up and play man, so that plays right into my role for sure.”
On connecting with the cornerbacks staff:
“They're just trying to get the room together, they lost their corners coach so they're trying to see if they're going to just rock out with what they've got or bring a new guy in.”
“They're just trying to keep all the guys locked in.”
On Miami’s cornerback room:
“They come to work every day. It's a deep room, and it's four corners that could all be one corner or so. But they just come in to make each other better, just make each other reach their max potential.”
On the atmosphere in the building:
"When you step into the building, you can see the attitude of why they got [into the national championship].”
On the top schools in his recruitment and his timeline:
Georgia, Oregon, Miami [all at the top]
“I'm going to just see, I'm going to take my OVs and things like that. But if things change, and I feel like I'm trying to make a decision quicker. It could happen.”
