Obviously, not because they are a better team without him...that suggestion would be grounds for locking someone up for 20 years in a mental institution. But because Mario has built this team for this exact moment...this game is no longer just about ND...this is a tribute to one of the most admired, lovable Canes in history. This is the brotherhood that is even more offended by people seeing an ND win as a foregone conclusion. I have little doubt you will see our best game played of the season. They will be ready and ND will get caught taking Malis absence as a win. Canes 31 ND 23

It’s just going to come down to Defense and Mensah it’s as simple as that. The DL has to get pressure and Mensah has to make good decisions and take what the defense gives them. We have to get off the field on defense and extend drives on offense. I know it’s obvious but nonetheless

Told my pops yesterday that there are some tiny silver linings from this situation:

#1 - Now the guys should have a chip on their shoulder. Sitting as the unquestioned #1 is something that can turn into complacency (not always). Now all they're seeing is that their season is over without Mali. Should fire them up.

#2 - Mensah is going to be forced to go through his progressions. Dawson is a great play-caller and is able to scheme guys open, Mensah needs to just take what they give him and make plays when necessary.

#3 - Gives pass catchers a bigger role and an opportunity to build trust with Mensah, which can only help us when Mali comes back.

I guess we will see if this is cope!

Same as any big game. Whoever wins these battles:

3rd down conversions/stops
Turnovers
QB pressure with 4 man front
Penalties
Field position
Special teams
Red zone efficiency

Yup. This the common sense guide to winning tough road games. 😂 Lets hope we take more of these categories than they do.

This is essentially a playoff game.

We all saw what went down last year in this type of match up. We relied on our running game.
If Fletcher can play like playoff Fletcher we will be fine. If Mallory can play like second half FSU Mallory then we will be more than fine.

Time to lace up your boots and scrap it up for four quarters.

I feel pretty confident too. The offense it still potent and I just don't think ND is some world beater. Being an away game is the only thing giving me pause but QB 1 has a chance Sat to show it's him, not him and Toney. Pretty cool set-up cannot wait.

This is up to our D. In the playoffs we have no chance to win if we cannot get off the field on 3rd down and tackle well. We all feel like Mali or not we should be able to score so we need to play complimentary football on d and make some stops/TOs.

All three phases have to show up. As you are alluding to the Defense having to step up.
Special teams may also have to make some plays. Total team effort.
