I’ve Never Seen Anything Like Toney

Toney’s hands are all time good in the history of the game not just the program.

His football IQ is also unreal. Always knows where the sticks are, knows how to impact off the ball, how to block and when to make a key block, elite route running. His smarts and instincts are that much more refreshing given the lack thereof generally in the modern game.

He’s got ed reed tier instincts except it’s on the offensive side of the ball. The kid was literally born to play football.

Lacking top end speed and explosiveness + freakish athleticism is all that keeps him from being the best WR in program history imo

The only blemish on his resume were his unexpected fumble issues in the playoffs, which seem an anomaly more than anything else.

The best I’ve seen at any level, ever. No, that’s not hyperbole. He’s got Jerry Rice hands, zero bull****.
I think that’s perfectly put. It took really almost 2 seasons worth of games when considering the playoffs to be credited with a drop. And it took a big hit surrounded by 3 defenders for it to happen. Never seen anyone as sure handed, except for the name you mentioned.

Long way to go but what a luxury to know the ball won’t hit the ground when thrown to.
Did that get credited as a drop? That’s some silly **** if it did. That was a PBU, defender deserves credit for that.

What do you think he runs in the 40 come nfl combine time?

I became a fan in 1982 and have seen some amazing receivers;
Eddie Brown
Michael Irvin
Brett Perriman
Brian Blades
Horace Copeland
Lamar Thomas
Kevin Williams
Santana Moss
Reggie Wayne
Roscoe Parrish
Andre Johnson
Leonard Hankerson
Phillip Dorsett
KJ Osborne

None of them is as good as Malachi Toney. Irvin, Moss/Wayne and Johnson were the best of that group, IMO, before Toney. Now the standard seems untouchable.
I was hesitant to say it but I think you’re right at this point. Physically he can’t compete with Andre Johnson but technique, hands, route running, and his blocking puts him at the top right now!!

We all need to really take a moment and really enjoy the history we are watching with this young man. Topping it off with #6 would make this the BEST season in UM history. The 2001 team will likely never be touched talent wise but this team has the chance to do something magical!

I've been following UM football since late 1970s and I would concur with you.
However, and I say this with all due respect to our former great UM QBs, I would have loved to have seen some of these great WRs play with Cam Ward and/or Mensah at the helm.

Off the top of my head I remember Dorsett, Santana, Andre, Hankerson and several other all time greats developing great hands over multiple seasons. Same with disciplined route running with others.

This kid walked in at 17 years old with both mastered like a 5th year senior. And all he’s done is get much, much better since. All with a perfect blend of humility and extreme confidence.

Never seen anything like this kid in my 45 years of being a fan .

Seen them all and he’s an all timer.

It’s an insane to think about how much he has improved his game from last year. I didn’t even think it was possible.

Mali is my favorite Cane. Has all the natural talent in the world but works like he knows nothing is given.

As an aside, I would've loved to see Andre & Santana in today's offenses with elite qbs.

I was thinking the same. This kid could be a greatest receiver ever type. I've never given a player this young props like that in my life. It seems foolish to say out loud but I just see it.

People still talk about those tavon austin highlights. Malis career tape will make that look like childs play.

Dorsett and Hankerson had trouble with drops but by senior year they were pretty **** reliable catching.
