Good question. As much as the program was slipping on the field he was liked by Shalala and the BOT. What caused his ouster was the FIU brawl. Without that fight and the endless replays by ESPN and others, Coker would have at least finished out his contract IMO. Shalala can tolerate a mediocre team, but she had zero tolerance for bad publicty towards the University. especially when she was in the midst of that fund raising for the med campus.

Other way around. IF we're still in the Big East, Coker is fired a year earlier. There would have been no socialist ACC payments once we stopped making BCS bowls.

And going a step further, if he was still the Coach, we could very well be receiving the Death Penalty from the NCAA right now

He would have had it made schedule wise. Hold serve against Virginia Tech and FSU (.500) and he's still sitting at about 10 wins a season. West Virginia might have gotten him a couple of times with Pat White.

With the way he was recruiting and allowing players to run the show we would be in deeper **** than we are already in and we would still be mediocre to boot.

You really believe this? He would have lost to average teams in that league just as easily as he lost to average teams in the ACC. When you aren't good, you aren't good. It doesn't matter what league you are in.

take out F$U and VT who considering the rivalries can never be considered "average".....he lost 5 other ACC games.........one of which was to a GT team that played for the ACC title......so lets say that 4 of them were "average"

most of those "average" acc teams......beat most of the BE in those years

I think just pondering this hypothetical has caused my soul to implode and collapse upon itself (much like forming a black hole) and I am now stuck in a semi-dead semi-alive purgatory in which I am being forced to watch the Brock Berlin beatdown in blacksburg over and over and over and over and over and over

And in the meantime I keep hearing corch in the background saying "iss gon be alright, i got next"

But seriously...no way Coker would have survived. No way.
