Hypothetical on Future QB Battles

Can't keep dipping into the portal. This tells players that are here that they are not good enough, and recruits will sign elsewhere. Need to develop the QB room with "next man up" mentality. Kelly-Kosar-Testaverde all waited their turn. Mensah, 50-50 chance he returns-Nickel-Coleman and Izzy. Expect Anderson to portal.

January 4, 2027, and closes on January 13, 2027
This is another reason why I think we most likely won’t get a Portal QB. It will be too much of a distraction during our playoff run.

It might makes us have no backup QB for the Semis or Final. Why would Nickle or Coleman stay?

If Nickel doesn't start next year, then when does he get his chance?

I understand the argument that we don't want to waste a year of Mali, A1, Nick, and Bfye (hopefully) with an unproven QB.

But what's stopping us from making that exact same argument the following year? We could just bring in another transfer when those guys are sophomores, and again when they're juniors.

Realistically, the talent we'd supposedly be "wasting" by starting an unproven QB is only going to improve.

And if that's our mindset, how do guys like Abrams or Cypher ever get an opportunity to start here?

At some point, you have to trust the talent you've recruited and developed. Otherwise, you're just going to keep bringing in transfers indefinitely.

That's why I believe Nickel will be QB1 in 2027.

If not, I get the logic, but then whats the point in recruiting these top guys like Abrams and Cypher?
Dude, the transfer portal has taken us to a new level as a program three years in a row. I don’t understand why people want to continue to change or stop using something that has worked for us! SMH Thank God Mario doesn’t think that way because I can tell you this, if JKS is in the transport portal next year, we’re gonna try to get him.

Nickle looked great where he played Famu and threw a pass he shouldnt and Vance made incredible catch against high school po lil timmy DB.. Nickle might be good but with Mario Philosophy we dont really blow teams out to give him good real reps, famu doesnt count.. We are basically ball control methodical offense and that style tends to leave lesser teams in games longer which doesnt allow others to get in.
Other than injuries because the whole **** defense has played because of injuries!...if we replenish the dline next year defense will be nasty!

I think if mensah comes back the room stays in tact! If not give nickel a chance... If mensah stays and we keep roster intact like last year we will be even better next year! Alot of if's I know!

if you dont spend on a QB in the portal, take all of those funds and buy an insane IOL and DT haul to give Nickel the best OLine and DLine possible to work with. He can start as a game manager using a strong run game to and all the time in the world to throw the ball. I think he can succeed

To enter the portal! Otherwise you can cherry pick the portal all year long...
Sorta. They still have to enroll. Also, elite kids aren't exactly going to sit in the portal all year waiting for more offers. They mostly know the 5-10 schools with interest and money.

What is interesting about the CFP and portal timing, it acts a little like the draft for the NFL and NBA. Teams that don't make the CFP will know who is leaving/staying and can be more aggressive recruiting portal kids. Teams that playing in the quarter finals or later get a very limited group of kids to pick from OR risk pushing kids out the door while in the CFP which can present a different locker room dynamic.

Agree to the first part.

Second part, Coleman and Nickle could compete for the starter role AND they also are only in years 1-2 while the portal QB is likely a year 4-5 type.

No disrespect homie but recruits are always signing elsewhere, but most of them still end up in the portal to play with a better team, and that's where we come in lol. Would you really prefer Nickel over a Kamario Taylor or Arch? You don't have to answer that last one lol...

Why would they stay when Mario basically said he was happy with the QB room and we do not need a transfer ?

coaches should know what they have from practice performance, you’ll just have to trust their decision
Like the Oline?
correct. the position group where they added a couple transfers and went very hard after the #1 tackle in the portal.

the point that you missed is that the coaches will have access to alot more info that we the fans will not. there is alot less unknown to them about what we have at QB verses what fans will know from watching QB’s get minutes at the end of blowouts against overmatched teams.

Nickel has been at Miami for a year and a half. The coaches should know if he has what it takes to be a championship-level QB. If there's someone better in the portal at the end of the year, Mario would be obligated to get that person.
Trust the OC & staff.

No one is guaranteed or deserves to be the starting anything just based off of the time they’ve been at the U. Furthermore, with all the WRs coming back and those coming in, why would you possibly not exploit your strengths at WR because you chose to go with a guy who has been on your roster when you could’ve upgraded over him via the portal?
This! Doesn't matter of it's a Portal, a returning guy, or even a walk-on. Coaches would be out of their minds if there was any consideration besides playing the guy that gives them the best chance to win.
