Hypothetical on Future QB Battles

If Nickel doesn't start next year, then when does he get his chance?

I understand the argument that we don't want to waste a year of Mali, A1, Nick, and Bfye (hopefully) with an unproven QB.

But what's stopping us from making that exact same argument the following year? We could just bring in another transfer when those guys are sophomores, and again when they're juniors.

Realistically, the talent we'd supposedly be "wasting" by starting an unproven QB is only going to improve.

And if that's our mindset, how do guys like Abrams or Cypher ever get an opportunity to start here?

At some point, you have to trust the talent you've recruited and developed. Otherwise, you're just going to keep bringing in transfers indefinitely.

That's why I believe Nickel will be QB1 in 2027.

If not, I get the logic, but then whats the point in recruiting these top guys like Abrams and Cypher?
 
Nickel has been at Miami for a year and a half. The coaches should know if he has what it takes to be a championship-level QB. If there's someone better in the portal at the end of the year, Mario would be obligated to get that person.
 
Ideally, I would want them to grab someone better than Nickel. I'm ok if he ends up leaving as a result. Allow Coleman and Abrams to battle for the QB1 spot the following year if they develop well enough. Grab another QB in the portal if they do not emerge as the top players we hope they become.

Guess that makes sense. But what puts those guys so much further ahead of Nickel? If I remember correctly he was almost perfect in high school and has looked great every time hes been in this season. I am wondering what is different about him vs those guys because I think the only real one is real game experience. We will not know until he plays.

Kamario and Keelon would be 1st round picks if they came out after this season. They have the game tape, size, and mobility that’s highly desired. Nickel wouldn’t be drafted at all at this point. That’s the difference. Those guys are flat out better than Nickel right now. If Nickel was as good as those guys we wouldn’t have gotten Mensah.
 
There’s a reason most of the teams in the playoffs last year had transfer qbs starting for them. If you have a chance to upgrade your roster at the most important position in football, you do it
 
No one is guaranteed or deserves to be the starting anything just based off of the time they’ve been at the U. Furthermore, with all the WRs coming back and those coming in, why would you possibly not exploit your strengths at WR because you chose to go with a guy who has been on your roster when you could’ve upgraded over him via the portal?

I meant before they started for their teams how do you really know. And with that logic what allows Izzy and Cypher to ever start here

In a sense it means we didn't develop or recruit good enough at the QB position. I think Coleman abrams and cypher will change that narrative. I like nickels aggressiveness but if there is a upgrade in the portal you take them.
