-He's been with Manny at 3 different schools.
-Spent 6 years working under Manny.
-Had guys like Redwine developing and improving.
-Knows Manny’s defense and would keep the system in place.
- Young, energetic guy.

Bonus: the money saved from not hiring an experienced DC can be used to bring in a great OC.
That assumes Richt will hire one, though.

Anyway, promote Banda to DC and keep the defense in place— thoughts?

I like it. I would like it. Manny Diaz defense works with fast players and we will always have fast players. If the same defense is ran in the future then Im gucci. Its not a very fundamentally sound defense nor is it very creative but its fast, crazy, and fun.

That is exactly what the nation wide search as announced by Richt will net. No changes and an underwhelming staff that can’t compete

ONLY if Richt hires a legit OC with extra funds. I’m talking like the $1.5 million on an OC and cherry picking one from a top 10 offense in cfb. If Richt is running the offense and Banda running the D... no thanks

I second this.. He is.comfortable with Diaz concepts and is a lockdown recruiter. Can get him for cheap AND go out and get beast OC.

The money saved from hiring Banda as DC would go to hiring an additional hydration specialist. Mrs. Richt can't do it all she's only human.

Why Banda and not Rumph or Simpson if you're going that route (which btw, is a bad idea)?

Rumph and Simpson have at least experienced championships at some level and know what it takes to get there, and both were top notch High School Head Coaches who built programs and acquired and developed some serious talent.

I just really don't get the fascination with Banda. He's a good coach, but he's done nothing to deserve some of the paise and consideration he's been getting.

too little experience in my book for the DC position. He only has the position he has because he has been riding Diaz' coat tails all this time and being his assistant from his Texas days.

I still think he is valuable in that he relates well to his players and seems a good teacher, but would be a big gamble for DC. I'd prefer a big splash type hire and a guy that has more experience like a Corey Raymond that can coach DB and be a DC.

In terms of the money it is apparent Richt does not want an OC so he can throw more $$$ at a big name DC.

I disagree. This is not a paid internship. This is the U. Our next DC should have some prior DC experience (or be named Corey Raymond). When you consider how hands off Richt has been with the defense, he's going to need a DC that can work competently and autonomously. The last thing I want is more on Richt's plate.

Banda is not a "lockdown recruiter." He is probably our best recruiter on the defensive side of the football, I'll give you that, but he has had some guys get away.

you get what you pay for / do you really want to go cheap after posting a 7-5 record ?
