Family has a house on the west coast, close to the beach in TB. First floor has become entirely flooded and they have moved to the second. Pretty worried about the situation but I’m hoping they are fine.

Been through plenty of hurricanes but this is already the worst yet for me personally in terms of damage caused. Looking for advice on how to handle. Told them to take plenty of pictures for insurance, but the water damage is going to be crazy. To top it off the roof recently developed leaks and they have been getting estimates with insurance, with a tarp out over it as a temp measure. That tarp was obviously torn off meaning there’s water pouring into the roof as well.

It’s a tough situation and looking for any advice on how to deal with this from folks with experience in these situations.

Sorry you’re dealing with this. Hopefully they are well and can figure it out in positive health.

Get your own attorney / adjuster is the best advice you can get period.
Thank you. Family is safe and accounted for finally, after a very scary 12+ hours of no contact after their phones died. Stranded on a barrier island. Had to jump through hoops to get the sheriffs office to go get them out and onto the mainland.

Now that that is out of the way, will need to rapidly turn to dealing with the aftermath. Expecting this to me many nightmare months of assessment, repair, dealing with insurance etc.

Getting own attorney and adjuster makes sense but I barely know what an adjuster is and have no clue how this whole process is supposed to work. Any tips or resources would be appreciated.

I went (3) years (2) lawsuits to settle original insurance adjuster saw nothing wrong only $2500 damage and my deductible is $7500.

My settlement was more then 30 times original damage.

Without an attorney and there adjuster it won’t be good.

After I signed attorney and adjuster handled ALL communications everything.

I still have my original insurance company to this day no issues.

But if a hurricane hit here my attorney gets my 1st call then I follow there instructions

IT IS THE WAY THE ONLY WAY

Really appreciate this man. Had no idea and want to avoid the pain. Family has been through a ton recently and this was the cherry on the cake, need them to be good.

What type of attorney am I looking for and any recs that could work with them in the St Pete area? If not thanks for the info it’s a huge help.

Look up the name Altieri. They are in Tampa but got me what I was owed by insurance. They with their butts off for you

It’s a shame you insurance company whom you paid for 45 plus years with ZERO claims left us hanging.

After settling my attorney said we should file a lawsuit for not negotiating in good faith.

This was my second lawsuit for lack of response and dragging me through the mud for 31/2 years.

We WON .

Brother's my house 3 bedroom 2 bath and had to live in ONE of both with my children.

I only have insurance for my home equity loan that’s almost paid off I figured (4) months.

I’m considering putting my insurance payment in a special account for future damages myself.

NEVER EVER FILE A CLAIM W/O YOUR ATTORNEY / ADJUSTER PERIOD!!!!

WARNING TO EVERYONE

Had a friend who once worked as an Adjustor for an auto insurance company. His top priority from his employer was to get victim(s) to sign for a low-ball settlement. As low as possible. After a while, he just couldn't take it anymore and switched careers.

Insurance companies are banks to make money for there investors only.

I had roofing company with over 30 years experience state licensed showing insurance company adjuster that my roof was compromised, didn’t matter I received a letter stating $2500.00 damaged and with my deductible $0 dollar claim.

I told insurance company please just fix my roof no more no less , sorry sir your claim is denied.

LMAO years later I got PAID BIG TIME, plus I filed a suit “ not negotiating in good faith “ and won that.

My roof was only $30K to fix but cost them $85K plus attorney fees.
