I've been a Canes fan for as long as I can remember. The first football game I ever watched was with my dad during the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. I was just 6 at the time, but I can still see my dad jumping up and down during the game. And I could see and feel the passion and excitement behind the team. I was hooked ever since.
Now for most of my life, being a Miami fan who grew up in Atlanta has been tough. All my other friends joined the USC bandwagon in '04, the Florida one when Tebow came along, and now somehow a lot of those same people are Bama fans. And of course there's more UGA fans than I can count. Every year though, I always am hopeful that this is the year that the canes come roaring back to takeover college football.
This year started out the same way, but man oh man does it feel different. Now I know it's still early in the season, and I'm not saying we win it all this year, but this feels like the start of an amazing ride. The past decade and a half (75% of my life) has been filled with disappointment. But I believe that all that pain we've endured will be worth it when we lift that trophy up again for number 6. And with the way Mark Richt has our team going, I believe that's going to be very soon. But even if it's not, I'll always be a cane for life.
Loved the post man because it resembles me in the same way. I was able to witness a glimpse of the glory days but just barely. First games I watched were during the 2001 season (I was five at the time), and I remember watching my dad get really excited and keep saying, "this year's the year"! I was hooked and have watched almost every single game since and while it has been a tough ride, I bleed Cane and always will. I agree with you; this year has a different feel, and I can't wait for the great ride to come. Go Canes!
I was 6 in 2001. I remember going to the FSU UM OB game in '04 and seeing Wilfork on the tv after the 16 -14 win with the bowl of oranges, that was awesome
