Hurricane Alumni on the banner...

OzarCaneSaw Tweet:

"The only thing The Al Golden Fan Club will have to celebrate tonight is a banner not flying."

You and Pimp Tight were nails with your predictions.
If you celebrated beating VaTechSchoolForTheBlind that's your prerogative.

So a group of fans giving the middle finger to a coach that gave the entire fan base the middle finger (for varying amounts of time) has denigrated to this? What a joke.

Spot on. Never forget that Golden, by his deeds and words, has brought this upon himself. I heartily laugh at any notion that beating the worst VT squad in 20 years is some kind of notable achievement. Once upon a time, Larry Coker also rose up (briefly) from mediocrity and snapped off a big road win at Blacksburg. He was still fired as **** a year later for the kind of underperforming that Golden is currently providing. Let the thing play out a bit more, the tune will be drastically different if we lose to UNC and FSU in consecutive weeks, which is very much a possibility.

Meh, I've already said this before, but I'll say it again.

Flying a banner does nothing but bring negative attention to UM fans as a grow.

If you want to show your dissatisfaction to the admin, act like an adult and put together a fundraiser to go toward AL's buyout. Don't pull a silly little middle-school prank and fly a banner.

That's the most unreasonable argument I have ever heard. Fundraisers without the schools backing means nothing. Which is why I will not support this mess by going to games, buying merchandise, signing checks for the Hurricane Club, or other things that the athletic department holds dear. I would suggest that others that read this do the same thing. I totally understand the banner as a voice for the voiceless. The reporter that has something to lose if he doesn't write certain things in the paper is no champion to the little guy. The TV reporter that reports what the execs say report on doesn't even care what the little guy has to say. The UM admin can care less what the average fan has to say, because if they did they would address line item by line item ALL of their concerns.

Total BS.

Again, I've repeated myself about a dozen times now; I'll go ahead and do it once more.

Here's what you do.

Step 1. Start a KickStarter or GoFundMe site. Get fans to donate 20, 50, 100 bucks. All it takes is a couple thousand fans donating an average of ~50 bucks each and you've got 100k in your pocket.

Step 2. Elect a spokesperson for the group, someone who's passionate and knowledgeable about football but also well-spoken and personable in general, probably an alum.

Step 3. With the ~100k pledged, either set a meeting with a BOT member (or a few BOT members). If they won't meet with you, go to the press. Tell them our concerns. That puts BIG-TIME pressure on the admin.

People will listen to a few thousand fans who've put up 100k. People won't listen to penny-ante dumbasses who fly banners.

It didn't have any effect when people flew banners to fire Butch; I don't understand why people think the same tactic will magically have an effect now.

I must be blogging with Stevie Wonder:

The banner is the tool of the little guy. SMH @ 100K...that **** won't even raise an eyebrow. Empty seats, banners, and other things will get the right attention though. In my business, 100K is a nice haul for 6 months to a year, but not nearly enough. But, for a university that is small peanuts.

Again, you're choosing not to hear what I'm laying down.

The banner is the tool of idiots.

43 people donated to the banner. 43. That's all.

The admin laughs at 43 people. The admin knows that those 43 people don't determine squat, have no money, and mean nothing to them.

Put together a couple thousand people who donate 40 or 50 bucks a pop on average and then you have a movement.

Of course it's small potatoes when you're talking about a 6 or 7 million dollar buyout...but that's hardly the point. The point is that the admin sees a ****load of angry fans who put up their hard-earned cash to get rid of Al.

And if the admin doesn't listen, that's when you go to the press. Bet your *** that an organized movement of 2,000 fans calling for the head of Golden on a platter, with 100k to back it up, will get some major press on your side. Unlike a banner, which the press has laughed off and/or disparaged UM fans for.

Link?

i can guarantee you the university didn't laugh at the banner being mentioned on espn and national sports talk radio

they talked about it out here in california. think about that for a minute.

what the banner accomplished was shedding light on the fact that there is a segment of the um fanbase who is very unhappy with the staff. this was not known nationally, where if you are out of the top 25 there isnt much news at all.

I can guarantee you the admin didn't talk about it in any meaningful wauy.

The banner accomplished nothing. Stop deluding yourself.

were you born this dumb or was it acquired later in life?

First off, every ******* game that is televised on TV, they talk about how the clock is ticking on Golden, how the fans are growing restless, how "the cloud" was a problem but we should be farther along. ****, we got called "Candy Canes" on TV before the banner ever went into effect. etc.

if people across the country were unaware that the fan base is restless, then they haven't been watching the games, haven't seen the empty stands, haven't seen the embarrassing defensive displays, haven't been paying attention to commentators, etc.

Second, "people across the country" don't mean a **** thing in the grand scheme of things. They're not the ones holding the purse strings. The ones that matter are the admin. And they WERE ALREADY aware that the fan base was unhappy.

Third, I've already provided several examples in other threads about how the media across the country are ripping the fan base for this. They're not looking at is as "oh, look at those brave UM fans standing up for their program by valiantly flying a banner to fire their coach!" Instead, they're treating as an embarrassment, that we're an entitled/spoiled fan base. If anything, it's gotten more people in Golden's corner...the media know that UM fans are fickle anyway, and this is just affirmation of that stereotype.

Yeah, tell me again how the banner really changed things..

The banner shows the growing discontent with the fanbase as a whole. The fact that the fanbase didn't universally reject it is and the former alumni publicly questioning the direction of the program is key the the BOT. In addition, the local media and DBjr may try to play down the discontent by saying all Golden Cane Donations are current, what they didn't say is the number of them that have notified the school they do not intend to continue for next year, which I personally know of 3. This doesn't take into account the number of season ticket holder that have also notified the school of their intent not to #renew (yeah, pun intended) their season tickets next year unless changes are made.

Your probably not off base on the "banner didn't make a difference" when taken alone, but when coupled with the other behind the scenes financials for next year, you better believe that it is starting to be taken seriously.

How ridiculous to say that the banner flying means the fanbase didn't "universally" reject it. So what? All it takes is a few fan donating relatively small amounts of money to fly a banner. To pretend that it in any way represents anything more than a minority of the fanbase is laughable.

Oh no!!!! I've been negged. Oh wait, that means exactly nothing even if you were someone relevant to anything. Neg away. Doesn't change the fact of my post.

Fact - besides one BOT member, and a few on twitter that condemned the Banner, there was no condemnation of the banner. Fact, their was more publicity of the banner than could have been bought 10x with the money.

Myth - Your point.

p.s. having to call someone a name to emphasize your point....

Hey look *****, I can neg too. Since you seem to think "negs" mean anything, here's one for you.

Sure, why not. Not sure what "CIS" is, but since you seem to enjoy "negging" people and think it's important, I wanted to give you one in return for your effort. Especially since your post was so stupid.

Clearly you are selectively reading. I've seen at least 2-3 media articles mentioning the banner, and specifically pointing out how immature it is and making negative comments about the fanbase in regards to the banner. I haven't seen a single one saying how it's a brilliant or valuable tactic. Also seen many comments on facebook on the many "U" sites, and the vast majority call out the banner as being stupid.

so the facts I stated I guess went over your head, and you don't know the history of this place or even the name (CanesInSight), and you have to act childish, I can only assume that you are pre-puberty, as the last thing that age group does when their point is moot is revert to name calling.

BTW, for your history lesson, when you get negged, you take it like a man. When you reneg just because someone negged you, it is frowned upon. Btw, Rep doesn't mean crap, your right. I actually told the admins to take a silver star of rep away because I deserved to be negged on a point I made before and they did, so I honestly could give a crap about negs, unlike you.

You stated absolutely zero facts that indicate the banner has any effect other than making the fanbase look stupid. Your opinion that it had a different impact is nothing more than that, wishful, agenda-based, opinion. As for acting childish, I'd say "negging" in the first place, and posting to let the world know that you "negged", as if you were A) relevant and B) doing something of importance or making a valid point, is far more childish. I simply responded to you childishness in kind.

Communism is built on your fact theory.
