It’s one of those things that reminds me not to take it too seriously.

We went from “we’re going to beat clempson in a rematch in the ACCCG and go 10-2/11-1 this season” to “we’ll be lucky to win 4 games this season.”

Truth is it’ll be somewhere in the middle with a better looking record than this game suggests we will have come December.

It reminds me of one of one of my favorite lyrics from one of my favorite Tom Petty songs:

“I'm so tired of being tired
Sure as night will follow day
Most things I worry 'bout
Never happen anyway”

Butch knows exactly what it takes. He's a prick too. A disciplinarian. And he fired up his UM teams - and stacked talent - not five stars - superstars.

I like that you chose this phrasing. Because it really is anti most of what Miami was through its greatest era.

I remember reading an interview years ago with Sam Jankovich reminiscing about the Johnson/Erickson years and he recalled a conversation he had with JJ when he was hiring him from Oklahoma State. He talked in depth with Jimmy about how Miami was a unique program in a unique location and emphasized that we had achieved our breakthrough with Schnellenberger by using (what was at the time) a very innovative offense with an emphasis on attacking with the passing game when most of college football was grinding it out.

Sam also mentioned how it was important to our identity as a program to produce an exciting product to entice fans in a difficult market and to say to the nation and recruits that this is a fun place to play. Johnson agreed and kept the offensive direction with Gary Stevens. It amazes me that Mario comes from that era and seems to want to recapture the greatness but isn't on board with the same spirit of innovation for the way football is played today.

Im not sure that there are more than a very small few clueless rubes who’ll argue about it. The Offense is inexcusable. No wonder we can’t recruit anyone to catch passes beyond a slot WR.

Today was bad. But one day doesn’t define a career.

It's refreshing to read a post with some perspective. Well said.

Obviously, it was foolish for anyone to think this team would run the table. Today's loss was one no one expected. Team came out flat and just didn't come to play. MTSU out coached us, out toughed us and out played us. No excuse for the performance we saw today. I remember back during Butch's first season at the the helm there were a lot folks questioning his coaching acumen. How'd that turn out?

In Butch's first year, Miami went 8-3. In his second season we lost at the OB to East Carolina 31-6. We went 5-6 that year. it was the first losing season since Schelly's first year in 1979. Granted, we were decimated by the scholarship cut but that year was a nightmare for us. That year included one of the program's most humiliating losses, a 47–0 to the semenhoes. I was at Doak that day and after the game the last thing on my mind was the run our program was about to make. And as much as we all love Jimmy, he stunk up the joint his first year at Miami. Coming off a national title winning team at that. And after watching the Canes blow a 31–0 halftime lead to Maryland with Frank Reich as its QB and the Hail Maru]y touchdown pass from Flutie, did anyone think Jimmy was setting us up for one of the greatest runs in college football history?

Today's loss was embarrassing, to say the least. But at the end of the day, Mario is a step up from any HC we've had since Butch. Let's revisit the madness in another year or two, and if we're still stinking it up then we can talk crazy. Til then, need all the fake fans and trolls to simmer down.

I’m not even sure which thread I just post this bc they are all the same but different.

I said this to a friend earlier this week. I have never seen a program let a loss just pound them into the ground like this program. It’s been this way for awhile.

Lost last week, TVD had his comments, George breaks his thumb, etc. It’s amazing how we snowball.

He hired the wrong guy. But at what point do you realize it and make the switch? Isn’t that the job of the CEO? This is a team of quitters. It has been for a long time.

Don't get it twisted, I definitely wanna see improvements over the course of this season. We need to be better in the end, then we were at the beginning. We regressed today. Bad L. I thought we took a step in the right direction last week. I hope this is just an aberration and isn't a case of one step forward, two steps back. Time will tell.
