How we get back to a Top 5 High School recruiting class

Prove we can DEVELOP, as well as match NIL. We already have excellent recruiters and other important pieces in place like location, culture, etc.

Class of 2022: Our best chances are Wes, Cooper and Moten, then McCoy and Markeith though they most likely stay for a 5th year. I expect 4 get drafted, but don't see any going Day 1/2. Maybe Cooper sneaks into the 3rd round. Best case for rest is rounds 4-5. Markeith right now is not even making a practice squad but he can still show cause this season and next.

Class of 2023: Sisi, Bain, Fletcher, Brown ... then we've got Pancake, Popo, Bryant, Bobby Washington, Bruno and Ray Ray. Emory and Jackson Carver still on team.

I expect 6-7 get drafted, which would be a Top 10 outcome for a HS class.* Especially good if Sisi is a Top 10 and Bain a Top 50 pick. Need these guys to shine. Several will return for the 26 season, a couple the 27 season, so there's time.

Class of 2024: We NEED to hit on Scott and Trader. They're the lynchpin for DT and WR recruiting, and have to make headlines this season to have any sort of near term impact on 2026/27 recruiting. Lots of talent after that. Only real losses so far are Patterson and Rudolph.

Can this be a Top 5 NFL class just as it was ranked a Top 5 HS recruiting class? Need to get 8+ kids drafted to be in the rankings.

* 2025 NFL Draft | # Players Drafted by College Team | Source: NCAA

14Ohio State
13Georgia
12Texas
10Oregon
8Ole Miss
7Alabama, Florida, LSU, Miami, Michigan
6Maryland, Notre Dame
5Iowa, Penn State, South Carolina, UCLA, Virginia Tech

Let’s get 6-7 guys per class to contribute first under Mario, then we talk about getting that many drafted.

The ‘22 class is a bunch of late rounders to UDFAs that don’t move the needle for top ranked recruits. Agree with you about Trader and Scott.

It’s not about the total number of guys drafted, it’s how many guys can you turn into day 1 or 2 picks that they care about. Recruiting a 5 star and trying to tout the # of 6th rounders compared other schools won’t get it done.

A lie is a bit strong, but ok. We are both talking hypothetical. Your question about those teams joining changes the entire dynamic of the current conferences. Think about like when Marty McFly started to evaporate from the photo because his dad couldn’t lock down the poon at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance…a different reality was being created.

Now to answer your question, I think if one of those teams ended up in the acc, it would be for some odd reason. Why they wound up there would be the place to start as to whether or not it would affect them negatively or not. If all of those teams came over to the ACC, then yeah, your point is a fair one. I also think you’re trying to point out what I wrote as cope and maybe there’s a bit of that, but if you look at where we finished last year and where we are at right now in recruiting, we are the top team outside of those two conferences. Yes, we are the smartest ******. So I get what you’re saying.
Im using it as an example of recruiting, the conference we are in has nothing to do with how we recruit. If one of those teams came from the ACC they would be spending big money and getting good classes. It;s that simple, the university and the coaches have to pay up for more recruits. They land a few top heavy but we need more, 2 elites a class will leave us at tier 2. If one of them become a JAG then you are really messing with your future IMO.

Joining B1G/$EC truly would level the playing field.

I thought about adding it to my list but I think this is a bit overrated for three reasons.

1. There is nothing Cristobal can do about it. That’s a decision made at a higher level so no point in including something that isn’t in his control.

2. There are a lot of teams in the B1G/SEC that don’t recruit as well as Miami. Being in the conference isn’t helping them.

3. Cam Ward showed that the ACC still has credibility. I don’t think most nfl GMs discount players because of our conference. I don’t recall reading a single article about Ward pre-draft saying he shouldn’t be the first pick because of the level of competition in the ACC. Qb is the most scrutinized position in all of sports, and Tennessee didn’t hesitate to draft him #1. And to no one’s surprise, Beck left a championship caliber UGA team to become UMs QB. Why? He saw his chances of getting drafted high are as good at UM as they are anywhere else. It all comes back to the draft. Get players drafted in the first round, and I think recruiting will improve.

All fair points. I made the original comment with this thinking: when it comes down to us vs UGA, are we losing each one of those because of the bag, or does their place in the SEC hold weight? In other words, 2 equal offers, one from Miami, another from Texas/O$U, who wins most of those and why? It’s nuance and it’s kind of impossible to ever truly know.

I know y'all say winning doesn't matter in recruiting but... it does when it's Miami. Remember guys, we can't be going out there losing to "basketball schools".....

That was a bit sarcastic but truth as well. And before y'all talk about what we did last season and our recruiting now..... how about we try to put together back to back 10win seasons for the first time and what feels like.....EVER

We would be lucky to have 1 draft pick from the 2022 guys u named, and besides bain and sisi i wouldn’t bet on anyone else getting drafted for the 23 class at this moment, they have to take leaps this year or next..or both

Assuming we have the staff and resources, recruit both.
Always need to kick the tires on the blue chips. Make them say no; get them on campus and see if there's anything outside of football we can offer that'll pique their interest. If still no interest, then move on.

I think the issue many have is the constant time wasted after the first few interactions make it clear the southern country kid has zero interest in "the big city".

If we get a big bounceback year from LifeWallet, I think we finish top 5 easy

I know people say this a lot and I’m not saying we don’t need to get out of the ACC

But we would certainly have to step up the record

Like I’m not glazing the SEC but if we can’t get over the hump in the ACC what’s our record every year in the SEC? Would recruits start coming here if we are bottom feeders in the SEC? Or maybe that’s too strong maybe middle of the pack
Big facts if we dominated the ACC we would be straight. We should be dominating the ACC weve had the best recruting class the last 4 years in the ACC. Clemson has 11 pre season ACC players were in the playoffs there putting kids in the NFL and there getting top recruits to come. They got 3 WR on the ACC preseason list sure they will be a couple of high picks in the NFL along with the DE and DT thats why they get those players and were not! Theres no way in **** Mario should have went 5and 7 and 7 and 6 those forst 2 years that hurt us bad!

Say hello to our newest recruiting coordinator

Thank you. People on here act like we have no talent some times. The success of these kids on the watch list (split between transfers and high school recruits) in the upcoming NFL draft(s) will dictate how hard or easy it is to win battles vs Top 5 recruiting programs.

Want to beat Hartfield at WR or Raymond at Safety? We need WRs and Ss going to the league, the higher the round the better. And while we will get a little development credit for a Beck, and more for a Mesidor or Richard, the pitch rings truest when high school guys like Sisi and Bain go Day 1/2. This next draft, we really need to start seeing Mario kids' names called, the higher the better.
