Fair assessment. I watched both games. Michigan State made some plays, but at no point had anything figured out. Wake had us figured out and was able to string together consistent offense and defense. Miami definitely has a higher ceiling if healthy. ND and Ark are the only P4 teams without a rush of 20+ yards.
 
Michigan State fan here (daughter is a senior at Miami, so I follow Miami closely, as well), so I watched every snap of both games.

In the first half, ND got an interception, a blocked punt, MSU dropped a WIDE open pass in the end zone, and ND was STILL only up by 7 against a team that hasn't made a bowl game in 5 years. For that writer to call that "a smooth win all around" tells me they were watching the LSU-Ole Miss game instead and just looked at the end of game box score.

Yeah, things got nervy for Miami, but ND struggled a lot more, at home, against a worse team.

Sparty is not very good. They don’t have an offensive identity and have a poor OL. And neither of the QBs can throw well downfield. Sparty dropped a wide open TD and settled for a FG. ND struggled a lot in the run game. But ND has a solid passing game and very good special teams.
