How much of a moron must Coley feel like for leaving FSU

James Coley was Fisher's OC from 2010-2012. After 2012, for some reason he departed FSU for Miami. Even though Golden had gone 13-11 up to that point while Jimbo Fisher was a far more solid 31-10 through 3 years. And even though he had Jameis Winston sitting on the bench waiting to be the starter the next year. Over the next 2 years FSU goes 27-1 while the Canes are 15-11. Coley and the rest of the staff manage to last one more year but are replaced after 2015.

Coley is now stuck as a WR coach at UGA as a result of his foolish career choice. Not an OC, a WR coach. Once Kirby Smart is fired at UGA and it comes to be shown that Saban was really his own DC and Smart was a glorified position coach, what will Coley's career options be? Position coach at Western Michigan? Patrick Nix's OC at an Alabama high school? McDonalds?

If Coley had stayed at FSU though, he'd be the top regarded OC in the nation. Everybody would be interviewing him for head coach and some people on here would be arguing he should have been hired rather than Richt. Maybe he even would be a 1st year head coach this season. Winston would be on ESPN discussing how Coley made him a great QB and is a great OC and recruited him to FSU. In real life Coley actually did recruit Winston to FSU, but nobody cares about that fact. Since he was gone before Winston played a down for FSU.

Is this post for real? Do a little homework before you post something like this.

Coley didn't call plays at FSU. It's well documented that Jimbo called his own plays and Coley left because he wanted to, you know, actually COORDINATE an offense and actually, you know....CALL PLAYS.

He's where he's at now because he's not a very good coach. If anything he should be grateful that a coach as idiotic as Golden existed and gave him a job he was never qualified for...and that's to actually call plays.

He's a God awful OC. Period. I can't think of many coaches I've ever come across in all my years of watching football that did less with more. We've had quite a bit of offensive talent during the last several years and Coley misused much of it.

This is simply an example of a guy getting exposed. He WANTED to take the next step and call plays...the problem is he's not an X's and O's guy. Nothing more complicated than that. If he would have chosen to stay at FSU it would still be well documented that ...you know...he wasn't the one calling the plays.

He was awful here obviously. I don't follow FSU football so I'm not really sure how much power he had over the FSU offense. Maybe his presence on the staff would have prevented FSU from winning the 2013 NC. With that being said, Smart got so much credit even though Saban was the real DC at Bama. Not sure if it was Smart or Saban who called the plays for the Tide defense.

Totally disagree. Coley wasn't calling plays at FSU and wanted to be a legitimate OC. Sure, it didn't work out but can't blame the guy for taking a risk to advance his career and make his own name. You can blame Golden for hiring him though.

I think the OP is accurate.

We had people wanting Jed Fisch, Jeremy Pruitt and Scott Frost as the HC at Miami.

Had Coley stayed at FSU, there probably would have been a ton of guys suggesting he replace Golden. ****, there were guys making that suggestion when Coley was our OC. I remember more than a few posts claiming that Coley would make a better HC than he does an OC, and that he could just hire a quality OC to do that job because his recruiting ties are his best gift.

Coley may have been proven to be a fraud, in the long-run. But a young-ish OC with a national title and Heisman winner on his resume is an in-demand HC candidate, IMO.

I don't think Jimbo shed one tear after his departure...

I think the main question is if FSU wins the 2013 title if he stays. If he won the NC as OC I'm sure he'd get a whole lot of credit even if Jimbo really coordinated the offense. This may have been a career ruining move on par with Howard leaving for a USFL team that turned out to not end up existing.

Fisher didn't let him call plays and yet he had the "title of OC"..Huh? lol

Fisher was probably laughing at Golden for taking Coley as his OC off his hands, and know my defense wont fear his play calling during crunch time.

Average football mind that Delivered Dwayne Bowe to Nick Saban. thats what his tombstone will read

There is little truth to what he is saying....Got to look at Tom Herman and how he was Ohio State's OC under Urban Meyer...Everyone knows that Urban Meyer is an offensive guy and expects that he calls the plays but Herman was still coveted because of his pass jobs and success with OSU. Someone would have offered Coley as a HC had he stayed for 2013 and ended the year with a NC.

In the famous "Elite at playing safety" youtube, he comes off as extremely slow. I wonder if he could beat Brock Berlin at the Wonderlic.

I think Coley took a calculated risk. It just didn't work out for him. Mainly because he just wasn't a good play caller. I guess he felt that he had no chance for advancing his career staying at FSU while Jimbo did all the work. Yeah, he ended up taking a demotion in the long run but receivers coach at an SEC school is hardly working the drive thru. He knew he could always fall back as a position coach somewhere. Sometimes you just have to take a risk.
